For those asking about attendance of MVFC football programs....since 2006 MSU is freaking 8TH OUT OF 9 MVFC TEAMS. The only team they beat is ISUB, who prior to this year lost 50 of 52 games!!!!

NDSU - 16,600
YSU - 15,025
UNI - 13,900
SDSU - 10,500
SIU - 10,200
WIU - 10,100
ISUR - 9,500
MSU - 9,300
ISUB - 5,000

Indiana State is going to improve though and I don't believe Missouri State is going to improve in that area. A team that was absolutely terrible and is now showing the signs of a recovery. Doesn't everybody love a comeback?

You really think Lusk is an upgrade to Martin? Really? Would you have felt the same if Martin stayed?

One of the biggest problem your school faces is $$$. I don't think you realize that along with the other lack of sustained success your school's athletic programs have provided.

Hard to say how I would have felt had Cuonzo stayed. I was never overly impressed with how he did things. Lusk is from that same coaching tree and seems like he would be at least as succesful as Cuonzo.

Money is a problem everywhere. And I think we have greatly underachieved in terms of our athletics but think we are barely scratching the surface of what we can be.

While your statistical arguement is a valid one. I would counter by saying that the top 4 or so have probably maxed out. To me SIUC, Illinois State, and Missouri State have the most potential if they went full tilt into FBS. While UNI has been very succesful, I am hesitant to think that a small, small state like Iowa can support another FBS team. Probably the biggest thing that people need to understand is the immense difference between FCS and FBS. Just because someone has had great success and high attendance in FCS does not mean that they would experience the same in FBS because that is a different animal.

For MSU, I could envision us being the biggest biggest football show between Columbia and Fayetteville North to South. And from Stillwater to Lexington East to West. That is a wide geographic area. It's just currently we have little interest in FCS. I could only name a handful of current football Bears but if we were FBS, I'd know everything about the third string long snapper. Night and day difference and I think that would be the norm with many people. Right now MSU football can't make a dent in the Springfield market with most people wanting to tailgate at Mizzou or Arkansas instead.

Ask Billy Beane, potential doesnt matter as long as you don't produce, it's a fact. TBH 64 percent of the sports fans are casual ones so they dont care about the difference between Memphis and Northern Iowa in football. If you can't see that, you are truly delusional.

Again, this is more fantasy land stuff, that is not based on reality. And the reality is that MSU has a horrible football program, both on the field and in the stands. Sure, every school has the "potential" to do the things that you talk about. What your counting on is tens of thousands of Missouri Tiger fans all of the sudden becoming MSU fans simply because they play football in the sunbelch or CUSA. Not happening.

Show me one terrible FCS program that moved up to FBS, and then all of the sudden became successful. Nearly every football program that has moved up, if not all, have been very successful FCS programs first, which demonstrated the ability to win games, and more importantly had the necessary fan support. Saying that MSU fans "don't care about FCS football", but then also claiming that they would be coming out by the thousands if they all of the sudden were FBS is just not realistic.

Champ, I thought about your question and came up with two schools: the University at Buffalo and Florida Atlantic. Buffalo had apparently only had one winning season in 1AA when they moved up and they won the MAC in 2008. FAU was only 1AA for around 4 years but was mediocre before they moved up under Schnellenburger. I understand your point and I think we'd be going against the grain but I have faith.

Did you seriously just use a "potential" argument when it comes to attendance?

You want to think about that one for a little bit? Seriously.
