I believe it's all the people crying "market, market, market." To me, that's the only reason to consider UTA, UIC, et al.

It's also the only reason I can see that Murray State isn't a slam-dunk add unless it's Murray that's balking on football.

If football is a problem for Murray What IF the current members of the Basketball MVC formed a new football conference? SIU and most of the Valley schools are having budget problems, this way they can still have a VERY strong league and solve some of the travel budget problems and add a great basketball school.

New League goes like this
Current Valley schools:
SIU
Illinois State
Indiana State
Missouri State
UNI
Add
Murray State
Keep
Youngstown State ( Traditionally a very strong program) and plays basketball in the Horizon
Western Illinois ( maybe a problem because they currently play in the summit league with the Dakotas)

This gives the new league 8 members and would cut down on some of the travel issues.
Just a thought

Youngstown State is not a traditionally strong program. At the DI level they have a 473-732 program for an all time win percentage of .393. 1997-98 was their first, last, and only 20 win season. They have no tournament appearances.

Personally I wouldn't have a problem with making football a MVC sport if we add Murray and can keep Youngstown as an affiliate. Scheduling would be challenging, but if the Pioneer League Valley schools would play us in the non-conference, that would help.

The Dakotas would scream, but let them. If they're willing to split up, I'd take SDSU for all sports in the Valley in a heartbeat.

95% of what I have heard is based on market. Football was an issue for a bit but that’s kinda pushed to the back. The football just seemed like a “hey the market argument isn’t working so let’s try this…” I’m not saying football would be difficult to accommodate scheduling wise and all, but I also don’t believe it is the nail hovering over chests either at the moment.

Murraygrad, my worry is that what you and I are hearing is circular, people repeating the same thing over and over. That might not be true, but I had one outside source say something to a few people and I heard it from different people without attribution for weeks. The reality was it was only a single source.
