That's not true; look at Georgia last year, they had three decent starters transfer out, 2 to other SEC teams. The National POY left West Virginia for Kentucky.The National Defensive Player of the year left North Carolina for Auburn; think the Tar Heels could have used Kessler Monday nite ? Yes it hurts MM/LM programs probably more because they have fewer high level players and less ability to attract the top level guys in the portal, but it is what it is.To me the biggest issue is the snowball effect; 1-2 guys leave, then others look around and say" gosh we aren't going to be as good" and then they enter the portal as well. Now a team that had been built to compete for a title over a couple years is back to square 1.
