But if a D2 player wants to transfer to a D1 school they have to sit out a year.Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think D2 players can play immediately when transferring to D1. Valpo had a guy who did it last year.

He also grad transferred though for what its worth. Not sure what the rule is if you transfer at any other time but I would just assume they would be eligible because everyone is always eligible now.

As long as the D2 kid meets D1 academic requirements, he's eligible right away.

The NCAA is a serious organization that worries about academic integrity and putting the STUDENT in student-athlete so it makes total sense.

The teams that have always been good will stay good. The teams at the mid major level will stay mid major. The teams at the low D1 level will stay at the low D1 level.

There isn't going to be some seismic shift in the landscape. Good grief.

No, but it only hurts programs like those in the Valley. It benefits the power 6 conferences. If you can't see that...well...

That's not true; look at Georgia last year, they had three decent starters transfer out, 2 to other SEC teams. The National POY left West Virginia for Kentucky. The National Defensive Player of the year left North Carolina for Auburn; think the Tar Heels could have used Kessler Monday nite ? Yes it hurts MM/LM programs probably more because they have fewer high level players and less ability to attract the top level guys in the portal, but it is what it is.To me the biggest issue is the snowball effect; 1-2 guys leave, then others look around and say" gosh we aren't going to be as good" and then they enter the portal as well. Now a team that had been built to compete for a title over a couple years is back to square 1.

Loyola went to the Final Four with two starting guards who transferred in.

It's REALLY early into the new format of guys not having to sit out. It's new - so it's exciting for some (mostly players) and nervewracking for others (coaches and fans).

Let's give it 3-4 years and see where we are at. My guess is it will have the same effect transferring has always had. You win some, you lose some. At all levels.

Loyola went to the Final Four with two starting guards who transferred in.

And they came from very different scenarios, showing the diversity in the ways the portal can work. Townes transferred UP to Loyola after two successful seasons at Farleigh Dickinson. Custer transferred DOWN to Loyola after not getting a lot of run in his freshman year at Iowa State.

They also both sat a year at Loyola before they could play. So as far as this argument goes, neither of them are really relevant.
