Zek is honestly the perfect example Wardle might have been talking about. We love him, we want him to stay, but as soon as you go to the portal, you're on your own. I love Zek but he's not good enough right now that I would take him back after he decided to go and look for better options.

Wild take IMO.....

I want people who want to be at Bradley. If you want to go look around, you do you, but I'm not taking you back unless you're sure fire all conference caliber. I'm stubborn like that though.

So, different rules for different players?

Great way to keep a locker room together.

You'll take Mast back but not Montgomery for seeing what else is out there....

Montgomery is a top 10 player coming back in the valley by overall efficiency and top 5 in defense. If Bradley is too good for him, EVERY other MVC school will take him and be thankful.

Mast isn't coming back so it doesn't matter anyway. Also I'm just a guy on the internet. I don't speak for Brian Wardle. This isn't different rules for different players.

Can you please provide the metrics you used that state that Zek is top 10 and top 5 in defense?

Evan Miya. He was the 29th most efficient player in the league this past season. With people above him graduating/transferring, he ends up top 10. He was tied for third in defensive efficiency with Penn and Mogbo.

Logan McIntire, who redshirted for UE this year, has hit the portal.

Fascinating. I've always found his calculations odd (note that he has Sardaar Calhoun as the league's best defensive player) and they tend to differ from a lot of the other metrics I've seen. Interesting to note that he is that highly regarded here though.

This is what I don't get. Zek is a really nice MVC player. He has a nice jumper and plays good defense. Any MVC team would be happy to have him. He was a starter for the team that won the MVC and had an opportunity to be the focal point of the offense next year. Every P6 roster has 3 or 4 guys just like him who can do what he does with more control and consistency. I don't say that to disparage his game, but it feels like he is a solid mid-major guy and at the correct level. How are we ever going to compete as a conference if we can't keep guys like this.
