Yes. Wait..... No. Ummmm, maybe. Kinda sorta not, but maybe. Maybe not.

I'm confused.

Oh by the way, if you're UConn women's basketball, how are you feeling right about now?

Today's New York Times sports section has an interesting numerical analysis of the "Big East 7" breaking away from the Big East.

According to Andy Katz the league is looking at 10 members. I'd guess that would leave Creighton out at this time.
A number of sources said the new conference would probably like to get to the ideal basketball number of 10. With 10 teams, as the Big 12 is finding out, a conference can have a true round-robin schedule with every team playing each team twice.

Maybe out for the Catholic League but A-10 might be the source of the 3 teams and if the right teams are left behind then CU might want to move over to the A-10.

I still don't see 10 teams as a perfect basketball league. Maybe if all of the other leagues were 10 teams, then yes, 10 would be ideal. But with other leagues having 12-16 teams, hamstringing yourself to a true round robin hurts. It is how you go from four teams in to two, with two others being in the last teams left out. I like the true round robin, it is the fairest way to schedule a league and crown a champion, but when not everybody else is in a true round robin, having a true round robin leaves you at a disadvantage. 16 is getting too big, but 12-14 split into divisions would be ideal for advancing teams to the NCAA.

I thought this is what would happen. It makes total sense from a money perspective. The round-robin thing really is just a diversion, because if anything it actually hurts a conferences chances of getting teams into the tournament.

But the big thing is that they can get teams from 3 big media markets that are also fits for the league. My guess was Butler, Xavier, and Saint Louis, but they could also go with VCU or something. Those are all much bigger markets than Omaha, and good teams.

However, I think the Big East will expand to 12-14 eventually, but will have a year or two of 10 teams.
