It makes sense that Martin would be a hotter coaching prospect than Marshall.

What I keep hearing is that this hire was made by the college president et. al., and not the AD. They pretty much demanded the best character guy they could get...the opposite of Pearl.

The Missouri State fans hate me because four years ago I told them on Valley Talk exactly how their attitude, pay scale and expectations didn't match up. I also told them that their new coach would either be a complete flop and they would be looking in three years for another coach, or their coach would be successful and bolt at the first chance. I made that opinion solely based on how they hated a guy that did nothing but make a mere hundred and eighty thousand and won lots of games. I always agreed that Missouri State should hire another coach, but they needed to pay more and respect more. They paid Cuonzo a little more and they liked him because he was winning, but Cuonzo always knew how Barry Hinson was treated.

Fast forward to today, Missouri State fans will hate me forever because I was dead on right. Cuonzo Martin knew the day he was hired how Missouri State fans treated Barry Hinson, he also knew that he would never win enough. nor make enough. He took the first good job out of town. And based on the pending sanctions, good may not be an accurate way to describe Tennessee. And what does Missouri State have to look forward to? Hiring another prospective coach that still remembers how Barry Hinson was compensated, how he won and how he was treated. Treated may not be a good word, the new coach will remember how Missouri State fans ran Barry Hinson out on a rail. The new coach will either be a flop or take the first chance out of town. Things never change.
