Maybe Wichita would be better off letting Marshall go, pay market rate to a basketball coach, and use the rest of the money to update its dark Soviet-era arena and attract more than 13% of its students from out of state. Just a suggestion.

:D

I guess when you can't brag about results, you brag about how expensive your purchase was.

I'm not sure why the bragging in this particular case. To me it is sort of like running out and telling everyone you paid sticker price for a car - everyone just walks away laughing.

Guys, guys -- You need to do what most Shockernet posters do -- IGNORE COLD. If you don't, he will reel you in every time. When I saw his first post, I just shook my head and thought -- "Here we go again. Does this BS never quit?" Since I have no control over what he writes, when I see it is a post from him, I usually just skim over it and go on. If you just don't respond directly to him or to what he says, he is in effect talking to an empty room.

LoL?

What a strange post. What does a debtor revolving a credit card balance have to do with Wichita State paying Gregg Marshall $1,213,000.00 dollars in cash this year?

And "pay market rate to a basketball coach"? Do you mean like the market level that SWOMO shops at? Around 250,000 a year? We paid $787,000.00 less this year than Gregg Marshall's market rate. I thought we got a good deal? I'm confused...

And why would we have to fire HCGM to renovate Koch Arena when we have millions in the bank and just spent 30 million renovating Koch Arena 8 years ago??

"Soviet-era arena and attracting more out-of-state students"? You speak in riddles man...

I don't understand this post either...

HCGM has increased his win total each of the four years he has been at Wichita State -11 wins, 17 wins, 25 wins, and a school record 29 wins this year. He's done a marvelous job with recruiting as evidenced by our gaudy scoring margin. If it wasn't for the lapses in motivation/intensity a couple times this year, I think we had the horsepower to go unbeaten in conference play.

But in this game, while Alabama is the school with the most resources, it will be hard to tell, simply by the name on the jersey, which team has the most talent.

I think that pretty much sums up the value we receive in Coach Marshall's services.

Hey, if my posts look interesting why not read or respond? That is the fun of internet message boards -chatting. I'm just happy they aren't all deleted. It seems like Shocker fans have a really tough time around here posting their thoughts if said thoughts have even a slight chance of raising someones blood pressure. I just learned the other day of HCGM's salary and thought people on here would be SHOCKED to see it. Shocking news is what makes the world go round!

Yes clearly you are confused; market rate is what you generally have to pay a competent individual to perform a task, comparatively to what someone would have to pay someone else to do the same task elsewhere. I believe if you look into it the market rate for "Non BCS Team's"[ Greggs perferred verbage I believe] coaches who have no league titles and no NCAA appearences in 4 years on the job it runs a bit less than $2 million or even $1.2 million". Individuals don't have market rates, jobs do; individuals simply have those they can con and those they can't.

Incorrect sir! The term “market rate” for our discussion refers to the level of compensation an organization must provide to enable it to effectively compete against other organizations in attracting and retaining qualified employees.

Here is an example: SWOMO failed to pay the market rate for Cuonzo Martin. Tennessee offered to pay the market rate and HCCM left forcing SWOMO to accept a coach more in line with the market rate they are willing to pay.

Pro tip: In the future, SWOMO should consider increasing their budget for coaching salaries if they seek to improve the stability and quality of their basketball program.

Classy!
