Kwadzo is a two time all defensive selection, 2011 MVC defensive Player of the Year, and 2011 first team all MVC.

AND he finished 2nd in the MVC Player of the Year voting.

Why are UNI fans so insulted by the fact he wasn't considered the best player in the MVC or the best at his position here? I think he isn't the pure PG most want anyways like an Odum or a Young even.

Let's look only at 4 offensive numbers...let's completely leave out the other aspects of the game....like the fact he was second in the MOP voting this past year...was twice selected to the all-defensive team, and what not....

The fact is, what KA was asked to do as a PG was different than what Young, Odum, et al. were asked to do.

Could KA have put up 6-7 assists per game while knocking his scoring back to 9 PPG? You bet. However, that wasn't his role.

A subjective panel vote is not an aspect of the game and there are additional measures that suggest KA wasn't quite as good last year as others playing the same position.

You're completely correct about what KA was asked to do as a PG, but every teams asks its players to do different things and assume different roles. The same performance justification applies to Young, Odum and anyone else.

Again, KA is a good player and was among the best players in the league. He's tough, scrappy, can score and has been a part of some very good teams. None of that means that he was the best PG, guard or player in the league last year, as your UNI brethren suggested he might be.

And this too is a completely subjective statement based on looking at only chosen stats.

For example, assists are one of the more overrated stats in basketball as they are as dependent on the receiving player actually scoring following the pass as they are on the passer. A guard can make a great drive and dish, but if the receiving player botches the lay-up. NO assist. Even if the player rebounds the ball and gets a put back. Give the other player an offensive rebound and the points, but no assist for the player that created it. Same thing for steals. Player A may deflect a pass or tip a ball from a dribbler, but Player B gets the steal if he recovers the deflection.

The only true fact is that people can manipulate stats as much as they want. If you really want to look at most valuable player in the league last year-how can you argue with Lucas O'Rear based on the performance of UNI with him and without.

However, as inexact as it is-the post-season awards are what we've got and they are voted on equally by representatives from all of the schools. And Kwadzo was the one being named by the media that watched all year and not Odum or Young or Simms-Edwards. Now re-define PG or shooting off-guard, or left-handed power forward under 6'8" or whatever you want, based on your own subjective standards.

Back to the original topic. There is a lot of good young talent. There has been for a couple of years now. It's time the talent starts living up to the hype and beating people other than other Valley schools, or no one outside of the Valley will give much of a damn.
