If take Marshall if he'd have won the regular season last year at WSU. Ben probably gets the nod. And to the point, I do believe UNI was in position to shock people last year until Orear got hurt.

I think you need to replace "weeks" in the above quote with "months", for it to be accurate.

I would have to say Jacobsen, but with a wait-and-see approach. Like others have said, I also wonder what UNI will be like without recruits that signed to play for McDermott, in spite of Jacobsen having a hand in their recruitment. I also only give him partial creditO for Doug McDermott, since the relationship played a key role. How many of Ben's best friends have kids with high-level D1 talent?

With all their losses from last year, if UNI finishes in the upper half, I will give him much credit. But I do think the comparisons to C-Lo are way off base.

A couple of other guys who also merit a wait-and-see mention are McDermott and Lansing.

McD already has a track record and did well last year. However, much of that was due to having players recruited by Altman and the addition of his own kid. If the players he recruited contribute at least a little bit next year toward a team with a fairly loaded lineup, then he may rise to the top, particularly if they win the league.

Lansing succeeded with a team that had the talent to finish right where they did. Although not particularly strong in the post, he fit the pieces together nicely. Obviously, Odom was a nice surprise while it can be argued that Lathan and Kelly were at least somewhat disappointing. Not enough time to get a good evaluation on Lansing but he did put himself on the radar.

No. When did this whole thing happen? Late April, Early May? Freshman get to campus in early June.

They do not go on the active roster until the fall semester starts so the end of April to the end of Aug. So that's quite a bit more then a couple weeks.

This topic should be a more interesting and chewy subject in a couple of years once the new coaches have more of a record to review, and assuming the Valley doesn't continue to have major coaching turn over.
I really respect Simmons for what he has done and probably would give him the nod at this point. Lansing certainly seems to have high potential. Jacobson is in the running. McDermott does have his track record at UNI which should be included in his consideration I would think.

Your inability to comprehend this story is staggering.

I understand the story your inability to get over it is what is staggering. He is not, nor will he ever be a panther now pick yourself up and move on. Doug had a better option in CU and his father. Next time you sign a kid who's father is a coach, make sure and express your concern to Jacobson. He could have held the contract up and Doug would have missed a year. Instead he realized that would have been more harmful to him and UNI then anyone.

beatingrillz wrote:How is that a stretch? What players have been recruited under Jacobson that have been impact players. I have no doubt he knows his X's and O's but who can he recruit. I will continue eating the crow I order, however come Feb. I am confident he will be more like Les than like McD.

I couldnt even finish reading the thread before responding to this...it's just so wrong, but it's Grillz. How about players like Jake Koch, Johnny Moran, ALI "F-ING" FAROKHMANESH, Anthony James and Ben was a big recruiter for guys like Kwadzo and A-Koch...maybe Jordan too but I'm pretty sure he was on UNI's radar since attending their HS camp as a Soph. In any case are those not "IMPACT" players?? I would love to hear your counter argument on this. Do you like your crow plain or cooked? Personally I like it in a pie...but to each his own.

Also he just recruited what is being considered the best recruiting class (on paper) in UNI's history by hitting places like Texas, St Louis, Minneapolis, etc...

beatingrillz wrote:I am sorry but Dougie Fresh was never coming to UNI to play for Jscobson, he was sent there by daddy. Ben didn't have to release him from his LOI, yes it was the right thing to do but not required. Also, you think Jacobson is the first coach to have a kid change their mind it's part of the game just like injuries.

Seriously Grillz....WHAT????

Please enlighten us as to how Ben would keep Doug at UNI against his will for the next 4 years. Please tell us how many other teams lose a player like Doug without ample time to recruit a sufficient replacement (or ANY replacement in this case). Please enlighten us as to why Doug wasn't going to be wearing Purple & Gold had Mac not been hired at CU. Don't worry I'll wait....

And I apologize for contributing to this off-topic non-sense...but honestly guys. I don't think this poor fellow thinks before posting, it's ridiculous. I bet he'd deny that Doug is an impact player too
