Bradley went to a Sweet Sixteen that year too. I don't think anybody considers that team to be the best in the last decade however.

uh right....Bradley took 5th in league that year and had to win the MVC tourney to get in. WSU on the other hand WON the league in a year it produced 4 NCAA teams and had a 5th in MSU with an RPI in the high 20's. Then went on and made it to a sweet sixteen. There, hopefully this time you will read what I wrote.

Well, actually, I was talking about Tatum, Falker and Mullins, but Young might be a legitimate option as well, which would mean that 4 of the 5 starters on that team qualify.

And, sorry, but Egleseder and Faroukmanesh are not making any all decade teams. I know Ali made the greatest shot in the history of UNI basketball, but he isn't an all decade type of performer.
I don't see how you can put WSU up with SIU and UNI.
Aargh went over the top when he said "3-way tie", but to say WSU isn't at least in the conversation would be short-sighted on your part. UNI dominated a vastly weaker Valley in 2010. WSU pretty much took care of the Valley in its toughest year in decades. That should account for something. UNI's Sweet 16 run was better than WSU's, simply based on the fact that it was a No.9 over a No.1 and it was KU at that. That shouldn't take anything away from WSU's run however. They played with the cards they were dealt.

Thinking about it more and more, I'm starting to side with SIU's 2007 team as the best one in this decade.

Bradley didn't win the MVC tournament that year, SIU did. And that would be the same tournament that WSU failed to even make the finals.

I read what you wrote, but it is easy to dismiss your comments when the facts you present are just plain wrong. I don't know what "butt hurt" mean, but I know that calling someone out when you can't even get your facts straight makes you look pretty stupid.
Another way to look at it would be to say how many members of each school's team would make an all-MVC team for the decade. I think the SIU team has a solid three players that would be in the discussion whereas every other team would have a hard time boasting more than two. As I said earlier, I tip the scales to SIU because I really believe they had one of the best, if not the best, defense in the entire country.
Just as you say you shouldn't look at seed lines as a determining factor, I don't think it's fair to look at players who made all-Valley lists. A lot of the times, the best *teams* had talent evenly distributed throughout and thus a lot of players' roles were important that just simply putting the ball through the hoop. There were plenty of players up for an All-decade team that had teams that didn't sniff an exit out of the play-in rounds. Sure there were some really good players on some really good teams, but using a subjective list to help decide the stature of certain teams is a bit over the top. Otherwise, you'd have Kyle Korver's Creighton team surging all the way to the top because he has clearly been the best player the league has seen, but that doesn't demonstrate the true merit of the team.

Tatum/Falker
Ahelegbe/Koch

I think you can safely say all 4 of those guys would be on or very near most peoples all decade lists. I don't think that Young and especially Mullins would be nearly up that high. I didn't mean that Eglseder/Ali would be on all decade teams, I was just comparing them to guys like Young/Mullins.

I realize you will defend UNI til the end, but let's at least try to be objective once in a while in a thread. Tatum, Falker, and Young were well above the talent of players UNI had in 2010. Maybe not "well above", but "above" IMO. SIU's defense was stifling because they worked for every possession, got up in your face, and scratch and clawed for the defense. UNI's defense was more about controlling the flow of the game and force you to shoot perimeter shots. I'm not saying their defense wasn't good, but it wasn't SIU good.

I dunno if you remember 2007 or not. Maybe that's what's clouding your judgment a bit. Or maybe you're just a homer who refuses to take off the specs.

I think most would consider both teams up at the top for teams of the decade, but when you start breaking down the finer details, it's not all a tie.

+1

That 2007 team was really, really good.

Hell, Mullins is SIU's all-time assist leader and is second in steals. Also a 2x DPOY. He wasn't a slouch by any stretch.

As a UNI fan I would have taken Mullins and Tatum off that 07 SIU team in an instant. Mullins is everything that Johnny Moran has been for UNI and maybe even tougher. Tatum just had a knack for getting it done on either end-I believe Anthony James might be headed in that direction, but may not get the notoriety. Not as big a fan of Young. And I saw what UNi guys like Stout, Koch, Coleman, and Eglseder were able to do with Falker (and that was keep him pretty well contained) so not as enamored by him.

That said, I think "Best Team" goes to 2010 UNI because of the depth factor and balanced approach used. When they could substitute 5 guys off the bench and build leads-even in the NCAA tourney-that shows the quality of the team. 2007 SIU had a great first 5 (don't forget GodSHAW), but their bench was not as deep. I don't remember the 2006 WSU team as being as deep either, but again a very solid first 5.

But as far as individual players, no UNI did not have individual stars-just a very good sum of all its parts. As for best players of the past ten years, I don't think any of the 2010 Panthers make the list. That's what tips it more to 2010 UNI for best "team" for me.

Who's not being objective? I simply disagree that '07 SIU was a more talented team than '10 UNI.
