Why do WSU fans have such an obsession with demeaning everything that is UNI?

Diid UNI play the best teams in Brazil? Nope....was that their goal? Nope. Did the players/coaches accomplish what they set out to do? Yep.

Don't worry about "bang for your buck" on our trip...focus on your own damn trip.

I'm pretty sure tribe isn't a WSU fan...

Way to waste all of that post on nothing.

The guy isn't even a WSU fan (which should prove he's not talking from a biased standpoint, or demeaning anyone.) Why do UNI fans have such an obsession with WSU?

Tribe has never seemed like a negative or confrontational type of poster before. It's no big deal in my opinion, a couple of small jabs are nothing in my mind, I love taking some well deserved jabs at Indy. St., I suppose I can take a few unintentional shots at UNI. I'm just a little confused as to why we care whose trip is "better", what's good for one team in the MVC is good for all of them in one way or another. Pissing contest's are not...

I think some UNI fans find offense where none was intended. It doesn't seem possible to take a "joking" jab at UNI without a complete out-and-out defensive front being thrown up and counterattacks being unleashed. That can lead to some posts just to trigger the counter-attack and watch where it goes.

But...and this is probably the biggest reason for WSU fans demeaning UNI fans. There's an unwritten message board rule that you don't kick a fanbase when they're down. Don't taunt that fanbase after a disheartening loss. Don't say anything negative about SIU at all. In both those situations, those fanbases beat themselves up badly enough They don't need any help. They need encouragement and support.

UNI and InSU fans don't need encouragement or support. One fanbase demeaning another fanbase is a form of respect and recognition for what their teams have done. SIU is no longer a target of WSU fans. Creighton still is.

If fans of other schools aren't demeaning your team, your team's fans, your school, your state, your city, your family ties, your marriage habits, your socio-economic lack of opportunities, and on...and on...and on...Then your team sucks.

Lose a bunch of games. Drop into the abyss. Then other school's fans will leave you alone.

I never intended to take "jabs" at anyone. That is one thing about message boards that drives me crazy. Everyone takes everything so personally and if someone gives a thought/analysis that isn't a 100% ringing endorsement then they are taking "shots" "jabs" or are a "hater". That's just ridiculous.

As stated...I am not a Wichita State fan. I do like what Coach Marshall has done with the program. I personally believe he is taking it to a different level and the rest of the MVC better recognize this.

My point on comparing the two trips was this: A) I know what I'm talking about here but B) inevitably people are going to see that UNI went 5-0 in Brazil and that Wichita State lost 2-3 games and make uneducated comparisons between the teams, etc.

The only similarities between the two trips is that they are in the same country. I do think many people (and not saying anyone here) have no clue about foreign countries or basketball in those countries. They see "trip to Brazil" and think that everything is just the same. Or, more importantly, that basketball is like 50 years behind the U.S. It's not the case.

I understand UNI's trip was paid for with private money. I just personally think UNI could have gotten a lot better trip for the money they paid. In fact, I know this to be true. No big deal though.

The real value of these trips is the extra practices and the extra opportunities for the coaches to evaluate players, player combinations, and what areas need to be worked on before official practices start.

Whether a team is winning or losing isn't that much of a factor. Coaches can tell if a player is doing the right or wrong things even if they're doing it against inferior or superior players.

It is a fact that WSU has a tougher schedule in Brazil than UNI, but I don''t see that as being negative toward UNI or saying negative things about UNI.

The only difference I can see in value of the trip to the team and the players is that WSU's players got the experience of playing against a decent international team. An 18-year-old guy from a small school in western Kansas, an inner-city kid, etc. get a lifetime memory of having been on the court with the Brazilian national team. That's personal to the players and probably has no effect on the teams.

UNI and WSU are using two different paths to accomplish the same things and my guess is both schools will accomplish what they wanted out of their trips.

I don't know if you can realistically quantify bang for your buck. These are exhibitions, played for many reasons, winning is about the last priority. Wichita State could be in Brazil to challenge the team as much as possible. If that is the case, their trip is well-planned. UNI could be using the trip to allow new players more time to play together and to build confidence. If that is the case, the trip was well-planned.

Nobody outside of the UNI program, not even in a basketball genius in the Wichita State athletic office is in a position to rate the UNI trip on how "successful" it was, or if UNI got a "Bang for their buck". The only person qualified to answer that would be Jacobson. At the same time, nobody in the UNI office, not the most plugged in, basketball wonk, is in a position to rate the Wichita State trip to Brazil. Gregg Marshall has different goals in Brazil than does Ben Jacobson. Anyone pretending to know the real value of these trips is kidding themself.

I don't think these games are difficult to schedule, it isn't expensive, these teams will play all comers should it fit into their schedule. Gregg Marshall scheduled who he chose to schedule and Ben Jacobson scheduled who he chose. Each coach scheduled their competition to best serve the learning needs of their team. Bang for Buck be damned!
There are three rules that I live by, never get less than 12 hours sleep, never gamble with a guy who has the same first name as a city and never get involved with a chick with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Stick to that and everything else is gravy!

I understand some of your points but you are really off base here MVJ. Games are difficult to get and they are very expensive to get. Teams in Brazil and other countries are not just sitting around waiting for American teams to come and play them. It doesn't work that way....it did moreso 20 years or so ago, but not now. Foreign teams are not enamored with U.S. College teams. Many times its a major pain in the butt to play these games. You have to pay the players to show up to play these games against US teams. The players overseas don't just play, just to play.

Ben Jacobson and Gregg Marshall, personally, had very little say in who they played. They could only trust the people they paid to do the trip to get them the games. Ben did not say "give me teams x,y, and z" nor did Marshall. I can tell you they both wanted the best games they could get. Ben just didn't get as good of games. No big deal in the end.

I agree..its hard to tell the "Value" of these trips. At least not until the end of the season.
