It's not even close. Weems is a good Valley player.
Seriously?? Not even close? Who was the better player last year?? Who was the MVC POY last year. Who outplayed who in the 2 head to head matchups between those 2 last year? That's all you can base it on. Everything else is just about potential and conjecture. It's expected that McDermott will continue to develop and build on what he did his freshman year. But it's not a given. Lots of players hit a plateau and don't move forward. Again nothing against McDermott. He's a very, very good player.
I reviewed stats and Weems had better stats last year than McDermott - although it was close. McDermott being a Fr and Weems being a Jr left the perception that McDermott was the better player. My recollection adjusted for the time in D1 factor. McDermott's career will probably eclipse Weems' career and that won't be close, but last year Weems and McDermott had pretty similar stats.
Another difference is that Weems seemed to be MSU's "go-to" guy and McDermott seemed to be a part of CU's team effort.
Weems did what he had to do. McDermott did what came to him in the flow of the game. That opinion may be inaccurate, but that's the way I see it.
My viewpoint is that Weems will hurt you McDermott can kill you.
