I've thought Memphis and UNLV have been undervalued as potential BCS conference members quite a while. Sure, they are down in football now, but they could get better. Both have good basketball and outstanding TV markets.

Kind of hard to fathom the geography of a conference that could include Boise St, UNLV, South Florida, and Cincinatti!

So the Big East and Big 12 are discussing a possible merger? Unless they institute some massive withdrawal fee, aren't all of the schools going to be constantly looking to join one of the power conferences?

NEW YORK -- The Big East and Big 12 might join together in their fight for survival.

School and conference officials from the two leagues have been discussing ways to merge what's left of them if Texas and Oklahoma leave the Big 12, a person involved in the discussions told The Associated Press.

I read that this merger could be for football only, which could certainly open some opportunities for MVC teams.

If we're doing dream scenarios with a Big East break up I'm going to say the Big 12 restructures. Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Baylor are left. Mizzou goes elsewhere. The Big 12 than goes after BYU, UNLV, New Mexico, TCU, Memphis, Louisville, Cincinnati and Tulsa. That brings them back to 12 football schools. Then they decide to go to 16 for basketball and add Wichita State, Creighton, Butler and Marquette.

Or if it were a midwest basketball league with football playing members in some other league, I'd go with Wichita State, Tulsa, Kansas, Kansas State, Creighton, Missouri, Dayton, Butler, Xavier, Missouri State, Memphis and Louisville.

West:
Kansas
Kansas State
Wichita State
Creighton
Tulsa
Missouri State

East:
Missouri
Dayton
Butler
Xavier
Memphis
Louisville

ORRRRRRRRRR I could go with Wichita State, Kansas, North Carolina, Kentucky, Duke, UCLA, Arizona, UConn, Michigan State, Texas, USC and Hawaii.

Once the BCS dust settles a little, the NCAA should equalize the scholarships and other requirements between FCS football and Non-BCS FBS football. Eliminate the really crappy bowls, expand the number of BCS bowls by a few (maybe Rose, Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, Cotton, Cap One, Peach/Holiday) and do the "Plus One" or whatever.

Then change the name of the Division One-FCS playoff to the D-1 Football NIT (now that they have the rights to the NIT). All D-1 schools would technically be eligible for a BCS slot, but if they don't make it, they could be selected for the NIT tournament. Use conference champions (unless selected for the BCS), and a few at large teams.

This would recognize the reality that not everyone is at a level playing field, but still give them something to play for.
