Larry Bird type players are nothing more than role players these days. Very very few guys at that size play below the room with average, at best, foot speed....
You must not be old enough to remember Larry Bird in his prime. Hell, forget his prime. He averaged 20.2 ppg/9.6 rpg/6.8 apg during his FINAL season in the NBA (35 years old)..and he shot 40% from three.
Larry Bird-type players don't come around often and they surely wouldn't be a role player.
I thought the same thing. THE Larry Bird would be a star in this or any other era. Anyone remotely resembling Larry Bird in terms of basketball savvy, shooting ability, passing, etc - would be a star in the NBA in this era too. Regardless of foot speed.
