This is how I see it.

Walk-ons: Joe Mitchell, Malcolm Armstead (although he will either start or contribute lots as a backup)

Scholarships: Fred Van Vleet, Derail Green, Ron Baker, Tekele Cotton, Evan Wessel, Jake White, Cleanthony Early, Chadrack Lufile, Nick Wiggins, Carl Hall, Ehimen Orukpe, Demetric Williams

Who Knows: Teddy Hawkins, Henry Udawie

So to me they could potentially be 1 over, OR even if they give Malcolm 1 and the two unknowns don't show up, OR 1 under if the two unknowns don't show up and they don't give Malcolm 1.

Any of them qualify for an academic scholarship and play as a walk on?

Orukpe has something like a 3.8 in Mathematics. That's almost good enough in that discipline, but I don't think that's a route any of the players will be pursuing.

Most believe Henry U and/or Hawkins will not be Shockers next year. Both are academic question marks. That puts us at 12/13 schollies plus Armstead as a ?.

Also of note, Ede was a freshman last year that left at semester. It is reasonable that Armstead received tuition reimbursement second semester as the 13th scholarship.

With Hall getting his waiver to play next year the Shockers are likley done adding players in the class of 2012. Here's a roster breakdown:

There are 16 scholarship worthy players on the roster. Joe Mitchell is from Wichita and is an invited Walk-On (though he turned down a scholarship to Ohio). No public announcement as to Armstead's scholarship status has been made, but he was a walk-on last fall. Wessel and Baker are Kansas kids currently promised scholarships. Hawkins and Uwadiae are currently questionable as to their academic status.

Weekend article in the Wichita Eagle states that Armstead was promised a scholarship for this upcomming season. He (or Baker) likely received an open scholarship this spring due to the early departure of freshmand Ede E. It appears we have currently promised 14.5 scholarships out and need to cut the roster. We will likely be losing a scholarship player or two due to academics, transfer, or voluntary walk-on status...I imagine things will be clear in 4-8 weeks.
