"tribecalledquest" called it............................."I liked Nic Moore. I think he is a good player. I do think he is becoming overvalued a bit during all of this--as is the entire ISU team from last season."

The Redbirds were a 9-9 Valley team last season & "almost" caught lightning in a bottle in St.Louis. No way were they going to contend for a top three spot in the upcoming season even with Nic Moore. We know how the other ISU fared last season after they actually caught lightning in a bottle in St.Louis the previous year.

The difference between ISU-R this year and ISU-B the previous year was that ISU-R was returning their entire team the year after almost catching lightning in a bottle. They were playing very good basketball at the end of the season, and they would have almost certainly been a contender this upcoming season.

I hadn't thought about the connection between how the two ISU's finished the last two years and how it lead to all kinds of hype around a PG and expectations for the following year.

ISUb and Odom catch fire late and are brought back to earth the following year after much hype.

Will the same happen to ISUr and Nic Moore (even though he's gone now)?

Agreed. No doubt Nic played very well in the MVC Tournament and in the NIT. But the guy wasn't some kind of legend in the MVC. He wasn't on a different level. He was a nice freshman point guard. That's it. He averaged 10 ppg. Shot under 40%.

I don't mean to be anti-ISU but there was so much luck involved in all of this. ISU wins the last game of the regular season in OT at Bradley. They lose that game, if Walt Lemon makes a shot at the end, then the Redbirds are a playin team in the MVC Tournament and never even see the NIT.

The Redbirds were 9-9 in the MVC. An above average team that got hot at the end. Nic Moore was an above average point guard that got hot in the end. Can he play in the Big Ten? Sure. Will he be a star? Not a chance.

Well...if he goes from being a potential all-MVC player to a much lesser player in the Big Ten, as you're prediciting, that speaks volumes about the caliber of play in our coference.

Personally, I think he would have been a contender for POY next season. Huge loss, but I wish him well.

Dude, what are you smoking? He averaged 10 ppg, shot less than 40%, had about 3.8 assists to 2.2 turnovers and isn't super fast. Take away playing pretty well in the last few games of the year and he is just a nice freshman MVC player.

Possible POY

By the way, his Standford 25 point game came on 13 misses in 21 attempts, 5 turnovers and 2 assists. 6-15 against CU in the MVC final...................You too can score points if you chuck up a lot of shots.

I agree that some are overrating Moore's abilities a little bit, but lets not go too far the other way and totally cut him down. Playing PG (starting pg, for that matter) is very tough, and he did pretty damn good as a true freshman.

I think Moore would have been great. At least he was in the MVC final. Horrible loss at this point without much opportunity to replace him.

Not cutting him down, he's a nice MVC player. He has people in his ear telling him he's going to be a star at the BcS level. You want to be 5'6 and be a star at the BcS level? Go watch Pierre Jackson at Baylor and check the jets out on that kid. He is a exception to the height rule due to having extraordinary speed.

BTW, he chucks up a lot of shots to get his points too.

I have to disagree on the speed comment. He's probably one of the top 5 quickest/fastest players in the Valley. As for the last few games, that's why we were so excited...he started to get better as the season went on...and against better competition (and on the road). He has speed, he's a clutch shooter with the game on the line and his FT percentage is very good. You're crazy if you don't think he would have been a premier PG in thie Valley and possible contender for POY.

You think he would be POY. Wichitard's think Cleanthony Early will be POY. Drake thinks they'll be NCAA tourney level with 8 new guys and Rice gone, blah, blah, blah.

I guess we'll know next March.
