That's right i believe Joe Auer said Wichita State wanted to wait until Spring to offer to make sure that Thurman would qualify under NCAA rules. I believe it was just a week or two later that he then gave a verbal to MSU.

I don't know that he did or didn't have an offer. I do not think he would have played near as much this season at WSU as he has at MSU.

I can only speak for myself but I wish him the very best except when playing the Shox. I'm pretty sure most of ShockerNation feels the same way. MSU fans remind me of some old rich dude (MSU) with a trophy date (Gavin) and the rest of us are doing this

From the WSU fan perspective - I wouldn't trade our #20 ranking (w/o Gavin) for your #243 RPI ranking (with Gavin)

One has to wonder if it's better being a freshmen playing on a 3 -15 - 243 RPI (with their coach on the hot seat) team or competing for playing time on at top 20 team that has sustained some pretty good success over the past 4 years.

I also heard that Gavin's girlfriend was coming to MSU next year. Sounds like he might have been thinking with the wrong head. :D. I know I've done that a few times.

I had hoped WSU would sign Gavin.

Gavin will be a fine player for MSU.

Gavin would have been doing what Derail Green is doing for the Shockers this year (Redshirting).

Derail Green will be a fine player himself when it is said and done. Although he is a 3 and not a 4 like Gavin, they are similar in many ways.

You have it backwards, Gavin had the offer, but he wanted to wait till spring hoping for a better[ BCS ] offer as Iowa and a couple other schools were indicating interest. When he wouldn't sign early, WSU moved on. As far as the trophy date comment, nobody ever brings it up on the MSU side except after a WSU fan inquires whether WSU offered and 2-3 WSU posters feel the need to deny it.

And moshock [13 black]as far as the other petty comments about current status of the two programs, it's nice to be on top and you should enjoy the ride. As you found in the 90's college basketball can be a rollercoaster ride for all but a few elite programs.

That is not the story from the WSU beat writer.

How did Thurman slip away from WSU? Or did we go after him hard?

WSU recruited him. Last fall, they backed off while he got his grades in order. I think that was the end of that. WSU didn't have a spot for him and he had other options.

Snags....sounds like you are uninformed. When someone posts a reply like you did, with no specifics to rebut the specifics that you are replying to.....well......as we used to say, smells like inkwells on the run.

I don't think anyone with the capability of taking Cleanthony Early would pass him up to take Thurman. Add in Derail Green and Shaq Morris, and there really wasn't enough room for a kid, though local, who was on the fence. We had options. More (better) options than Thurman. It just didn't work out for him so he'll have to settle for playing in Wichita once per year over his career.

It's been quite a long time since a WSU team had an RPI hovering around 300 for most of the season (if ever), and even longer with a 3-15 record. WSU had some bad years in the 90's but they were never that bad.

When's the last time MSU was ranked? Made the NCAA's?

MSU can have Gavin Thurman. I like the way WSU has performed over the last decade and the future looks equally as bright.

Let me help you out. The quotes from Snagg's post was taken directly from the WSU beat writer's chat today. It's on Paul Sullentrop's blog on Kansas.com. The question was asked just as stated above. "How did Thurman slip away from WSU or did we go after him hard?" His response is quoted above. I'm pretty sure that WSU did offer him during the summer and he wanted to wait. Later on they backed away because of his grades, etc. and the rest happened. I think that other quality players were committing while he waited to decide, then the grades thing happened and I'm not sure if they had any scholarships left. Probably everyone is a little right.
