Not only has Wichita State had the better season, but the only debate should legitimately be: Is Wichita State's current season better than any season in Creighton history? It's not only laughable to compare WSU's current season to Creighton's, but WSU has without a doubt had a better season than any Creighton season since 1974. After that it's debatable.

Don't believe me? Let's ask some Creighton fans:

Not conference championships. Not conference tournament championships. NCAA appearances and NCAA wins. That is what defines a program. That is according to Creighton fans.

La Salle finished fifth in the Atlantic-10. They've still had a better season than any other Atlantic 10 team.

i agree that it is pretty much splitting hairs right now ( just talking in the current as WSU has reached the S16. E8 or F4 and this is not a discussion). However, i would have to go with the Shockers anyways. It is the exact same reason why I believe Creighton had a better year last year. The tourney is what matters. The regular season is simply a means to position yourself for NCAA success (or just make it). i would take a S16 over a conference regular season or tourney title every single year.

p.s.-im just talking about performance on the court. This Creighton team made the move to Big East possible. That could be a defining accomplishment in CU basketball history, possibly worth more than a S16. time will tell.

From someone who knows more about basketball than everyone here combined:
“It was just so difficult to score,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “That’s the best defense we’ve played all year. Our guys were really tough. It was just tough to get buckets.”

:+1: We are a well rounded team, just had a bad night. Truth is in the tournament the team that shoots the ball better wins 90% of the time. And funny how Wichita won because they played a great game of Suburban HORSE in the second half. They played good D also, but so did Creighton.

Now for the topic. Right now I would say it is a tie. Conference Title + Tournament Title = 1 more NCAA win.
If the shockers win one more game then they will have had a better season IMO. Only because fair or not, what the nation remembers is how you do in the NCAA's. Even though I would say It is harder to do what Creighton did, compared to having one good night and beating a great team in the NCAA.

But really, good season for both programs. Although Creighton was already a really good team and expected to do good, Wichita has exceeded expectations, and I would be more happy as a shocker fan with the season WSU has had, than I am of the season Creighton had.

How many people know who won the MVC regular season or got the auto bid?

How many people know the teams in the S16?

D1 BB is all about the $$ any more. Next year, the Shox are going to get a lot of TV revenue because everybody in the nation knows about them. CU will get more TV money because a lot of people in the nation know about their opponents.

I would have to say a sweet sixteen run or better trumps a regular season and tourney title. I am definitely happy with CU's season for sure but I would trade those MVC titles for a sweet sixteen run. Gotta a feeling this next game will be a war. Come on shockers!

Here is a little different perspective on this.

Creighton fans, would you trade shooting 70% against the Shockers at home for a percentage closer to your season average, knowing you probably lose that game and the Valley regular season title, to shoot closer to your season average against Duke and be able to win that game?

Give it a week or so and honestly I think MVC Titles for regular season and Conf Title trump one more win in NCAA's. Here's why. Right now of course we would rather trade spots with you because we would (like you guys do now) have a chance to advance in the NCAA. However, if you guys lose your next game against La Salle, you will be just as dissapointed as Jays fans are right now. With the taste fresh in our mouths, it is easy to say WSU's win to get to the sweet 16 was more important than our 2 Titles...However, lose your next game and your last win will not feel so sweet anymore. Kind of like Creighton's win against Cincinnati, not so sweet anymore, all we remember now is our loss against Duke. Same concept. Your win is sweet now, but lose to La Salle, It's all for nothing in a sense. You can't take Creightons Championships away from them, they are already set in stone. The truth is the season always ends on a downer, unless you either 1- Win the National Championship or 2. Make it as far as you thought realistically possible and lose to a team you felt you had no realistic chance of beating. Otherwise you will always think man we could of beat them, and be dissapointed with the loss.

It's not over yet though, win one or two more games and then you will have sealed this discussion. As an Elite 8 or Final Four for sure would be satisfying, even if you were to lose in the Final 4.

No matter what happens on Thursday, I would not trade making the Sweet Sixteen for the Valley championship. Part of that has to do with the backdrop of Creighton leaving the Valley. Making at least the Sweet Sixteen is getting Wichita State some publicity that will hopefully help with scheduling in the future, especially if WSU continues making the NCAA tournament. Making the Sweet Sixteen is important for creating opportunities for Wichita State.

With Creighton moving to the Big East, it does not need a deep NCAA run to have new opportunities. The new conference should provide them and hopefully Creighton will be able to take advantage of them. Winning both the regular season and tournament titles allows Creighton to leave the Valley with their heads held high, so I can see how Creighton fans would put more weight in that.

Exactly. This thread clearly was leading nowhere good. Both had really good seasons. WSU still has potential for a monumental season. On the court performance wise, I would take the Shockers season. Obviously, the conference change has me excited (yes, a little nervous too) for CU's future. I think it is safe to say both programs positioned themselves for future success this year.
