The Shox could never have done this if the competition in the Valley hadn't prepared them for it.

Watching the Shockers play, and I've seen almost every game this season, Ohio State and Gonzaga were not that much better than the 10 MVC teams this year. In fact, I don't believe that either one of them would have won the Valley. LaSalle and Pitt were very Ill St / UNI like this year. Thank God we haven't seen any Evansville's yet!

BTW, on the local AM radio post game Marshall was talking about how tOSU was guarding Armstead WAY out on the perimeter and how that allowed Mal to have 30 foot of open floor to go 1 on 1 against a PF, and how it was a mismatch the Shockers exploited. Collar gut Mike Kennedy replied, "Mart Simmons is out there somewhere yelling at the TV, 'No, no, no! That's not how you guard Armstead!"

isumvc1 wrote:someone correct me if I have the numbers wrong, but the MVC has earned 7 units this year (so far). Each unit is worth $245,514 (from an article I read). 7 units x $245,514 = $1,718,598 x 6 years of payout = $10,311,588.

That is some SERIOUS CASH WSU has earned this conference if I did that right, and that does not even include the NCAA units from the previous 5 years.

Now go out and make the MVC proud and win the whole da*n thing!

Dear all MVC Programs: Either use that money to pay your winning coaches, hire better coaches, or give it to us so we can pay Marshall with it.

Ole Miss reminded me a lot of them, actually. Mainly in their way of running constant screens to get Colt/Henderson the ball.

Thankfully Colt is a monumentally better human being.

I know its a team effort and everyone on the Shocker team stepped up all night. Coming back from bumped heads and stepped on heads, ankle injuries, hits to the jaw, and continued to play. Tough Bunch.

It makes you wonder what would have happened if Baker had been healthy and had a whole season of play?
He rebounds shoots and seems to be a leader too. Van Vleet handled the pressure of a big game well, I believe, came in and scored.
The thing is the Shockers could "do it again" with the group they have coming back.

Love this! Such a great conference, so much history, only hope everyone can just enjoy it. In this era of conference-hopping, the MVC (so far) has endured, and it can continue to if everyone sticks together.

I would really love for the MVC to take the next step ... but we HAVE to make moves to get into a major TV deal.

Next year, if Saint Louis and Dayton go to the Big East, a HUGE move needs to be made to cannibalize the A-10, specifically with VCU, George Mason, La Salle, Saint Joseph's, and Richmond.

That would be a conference with three Final Fours in the last 10 years, plus ... what? 10 times making at least the Sweet 16s? That's a 14 team conference where I believe 9 of them were top 100 RPIs last year. That is a conference that makes money. That is a conference that gets a TV deal and east-coast attention.

Get. This. Done. The Valley will survive regardless ... but this will make the Valley IMPORTANT. The Valley has spent too long just letting things happen and being content with existing. This is the time for leadership and forward-thinking. Do NOT let this opportunity go to waste, Valley ... or you're going to lose Wichita as well.

There is no reason we can't have a 14 team conference (just call it "The Valley") with those teams signing a $2 million TV deal with ESPN, CBS, or Fox. Just do SOMETHING. Oral Roberts is NOT it.
