Marshall is very good. He is not unique and you described Ron Baker with his talents.

Baker can not get his own shot..... He was the primary benefactor of the Carl Hall effect.

Other offers: Hartford, LIU Brooklyn, Robert Morris, St. Peter's, Fairfield, Eastern Illinois, East Carolina, Stetson, Binghamton, Vermont, Quinnipiac, Bryant

You are wrong. Baker makes everyone around him better. He can shoot from the outside off of a pick or a pass from inside to outside, he can offensively rebound and then get a second shot, and he can slash/drive and get to the rim. He will be a double figure scorer which in Marshall's system is a high achievement because it is so much a team system with 10 players getting minutes.

In basketball?

Because even then you'd have some serious ground to make up.

Seriously, proposing a 1* freshman to be the MVC POY? You have Marshall on your team ... I would be surprised if he was POY, or even top three, of his own team.

Even another Bears fan called this kid an "undersized guard who can't shoot very well."

At least if you were proposing him for FOY, that would be conceivably possible. It'd be especially interesting as he'd be the first freshman in MVC history to win POY.

Sorry, I meant Freshman of the Year. Not Player of the Year.

I think Devon is definitely in the mix for the Freshman of the Year Award. He was really blowing up late in the process. Rivals has not looked at him yet. If you want to get into a number of stars argument then be my guess.

What else is there to base something like this on in the preseason? I haven't seen any tape on this kid any more than I've seen any tape on any other freshman that won't be playing for WSU. No more than you've seen any tape on any freshman not playing for the Bears next season.

There's nothing to base preseason FOY predictions on other than how they've been evaluated by the recruiting services, the offers they hold, and a knowledge of what teams are so desperate for scoring that they'll likely lean heavily on a freshman, or will at least be starting a freshman.

Literally every freshman in the league is in the mix for the Freshman of the Year award.

Every teams fanbase thinks they have the FOY or NOY. When we have not seen kids play D1 whether it is out of HS or JC it leads to wild fantasies by their respective teams fanbases. Some of these hype jobs actually come to fruition but most fail to pan out in year one, and sometimes never at all.
