Discuss the MVC hoops season here.

It's amazing some of the hypocrisy on this board. Just a straight-up college hoops fan, all you'd need to do is look up some information.

On this thread you have some WSU fans that are posting that ISU's Drexel loss is bad and that the Colonial is terrible, yet last season that same Drexel team (who was without their best player) went on the road and beat William and Mary by a doule digits.

Now William & Mary, who basically return the same team as last season, go into WSU and give the Shockers a game. That William & Mary team finished last season at 12-17 with an RPI of 261.

Drexel, without their best player last season, finished at 13-18 with an RPI of 206. Now we have the TOP team in the MVC with fans that are telling us that William & Mary would finish 2nd in the Valley. Yet the Drexel team, that now HAS their best player back and is picked 2nd in the Colonial, is NOT a good team and it was a garbage loss by ISU-R (which is a team that's basically starting from scratch).

Just think it's funny how slanted things actually get on this board. No disrespect to the WSU program (which is crazy good right now), but it's funny how some fans can't seem to get a little perspective on how other teams are doing.

ROCK IT MVC!!

Difference between giving the Shockers a game for a half and losing to a team at home. The Shox won by 17 and covered the spread. Didn't see the Drexel game, but did see W&M and I think that W&M would finish mid pack in the Valley this year. I'm going off what I saw of W&M and what teams looked like last year as I have seen very little of any other Valley team besides WSU.

Think you're missing my point on comparisons despite your "eye test". William & Mary in their first game went on the road and lost by 8 points to Hampton U. Drexel (in their first game with their leading scorer) went on the road to #22 UCLA and had them on the ropes until the final seconds.

After William & Mary's starters started to foul out, then WSU tacked on quite a few FTs to make the score a bit deceiving. You just need to step back a bit and think about comparing a team coming off a F4 and ranked #15 in the country with a home victory over W & M, and then trying to compare that with Drexel going to ISU-R who has 10 new players and as a team is playing their second game of ball together. In my mind that's a world of difference.

I've followed Valley hoops for close to 35 years now, and I have to call some fans when they can't step back and have a perspective how different teams are performing given the roster, time of season and opponent.

And this is part of the point I was making earlier. You can't always go off last year. There may be things you aren't aware of. For instance, ISU was 18-15 last year and nearly .500 in conference. One might assume a similar season this year until the see the situation. No one assumes ISU will be close to .500 in conference. There's a real chance that this years team takes a significant step back without their top 2 players from last year (hell, all but 2 players from last year!). So, seeing Drexel wasn't great last year doesn't mean they aren't significantly better this year.

I know the point...did you watch either game? I admit I didn't watch the Drexel game, but I did watch the W&M game. I'm not comparing just the Drexel game, but also the VCU game when they got blown out by over 40. It was there first game together, but Muller's decisions are the reason they are playing a whole new team. One W&M player fouled out. WSU was up 13 points 8 minutes into the half...so I don't know how the final score is deceiving. The last 35 minutes of the game WSU outscored them by 27. Sounds deceiving to me. Illinois St now reminds me of WSU in the 90's when you are hiring a former player without much experience to lead your team.

Totally agree with you. The problem is Illinois St created this situation by hiring a guy with little experience and then blowing up the roster. No Valley team should lose by 40 on the road and then come home and lose to a CAA team (not the same CAA conference from the last 5 years).

Come season's end, let's revisit this thread, and then (MAYBE) you'll get a better feeling for my point.

I do have a problem with fans with nothing better to do them come onto MVC Fans and try to denigrate other Valley programs. It doesn't make any sense that these "fans" would actually be happy that another Valley program is in rebuilding mode and needs to work some things out. To get a strong Valley, ALL Valley teams need to go out and put together strong non-con schedules and then perform. When that happens, then it raises all boats.

Doing a little posting history research shows exactly which fans come here and rip on other Valley programs.
It's pretty over-the-top ridiculous sometimes.

I'm a fan of all Valley teams, and I think this MVCFANS forum has gotten to the point of unreadable because of all the posturing from the hater fans.

I like rooting for Valley teams. I like it even more when they make it worthwhile.

I do not like rooting for teams that are not building a program the right way.

Ex: I will root strongly for Bradley this year. Outside of sympathy for a longtime great fanbase, I don't give a flip about rooting for IlSU this year.

Well I think we figured out who valleyclimber has allegiance to.

Redbird fans have this rightfully coming for them. They've been asking for it for about a year now and now they're getting it.

Losing to Drexel at home is kind of bad, unless people think Illinois State is finishing last in the Valley, which I guess makes it borderline acceptable then.
