I wasn't sure if Creighton basketball still had its own message board or if it had finally been swallowed by a forum devoted to sniffing one's own farts while lighting their long-resented stepfather's money on fire, so I wandered over there to take a quick look. It still exists in case you were curious!
What I saw SHOCKED me to say the least. The same posters who argued so
vociferously on this fine site that long-cherished Coach McDermott would
not let their squad of savvy, "jumping, defense and dunking are overrated" upstarts slip into the
abyss following his progeny's graduation seem to be jumping ship.
I know what you are thinking. Can this be? We were told so emphatically by such, ahem,
hefty posters that prediction of CU's decline on here was an unadulterated FARCE.
As recently as February, 2014 on MVCFans.com (addressed to a WSU fan for some reason):
I'll be back in a month to see where our 2 teams are sitting from the eyes of the American public. Its not your style to research any facts heaven for bid, but I think CU will be OK with the current crop of recruits/redshirts/returners.
However, this same poster today on the future acquisition target for FartSniffinWhileBurninBenjamins.com (link:
http://www.bluejayunderground.com/viewt ... &start=190):
Boys, see you when we get a new regime. I'm done.
?????Other former patrons of this fine site had similar albeit less blatantly bandwagon sentiments:
By no means am I in panic mode, but I'm starting to get concerned Mac is in over his head.
Without his all-world son, he has had a pretty bad stretch of 7 or so years in major conference basketball.
I guess the writers were correct, 9th place looks about right. We all ate the hype. How many years of 9th place finishes can fans endure?
We suck. The future sucks. Hard to recruit when you lose to the likes of North Texas.
While I have redacted the names of these fine posters so that they avoid shame when running into other CU "fans" hurriedly putting on their Cornhusker starter jackets at the neighborhood La Madeleine, the groupthink is clearly on the downtrend in Omaha.
I think I speak for all us when I say this really is a shame. Prayers for Creighton.
