CU has almost never shot the ball well in NU's dump of a facility - even some of our best teams have laid eggs in Lincoln. Our wins there have typically been a reflection of how bad NU is.
I think most CU fans understand that Dana did not exactly leave the cupboard full when he bailed. Outside of Young and Ashford, Dana really left a very mediocre cast of players by MVC standards. McDermott spoke after the game of the learning process and the fact that only AY has really grasped his system to this point. The other guys are still having to do too much thinking and not playing off instinct. He also said he expects that it will take some time for the team to get used to playing with Echinque once he becomes eligible. I get the feeling McDermott figures it will be mid-January before this team reaches its peak. I think most CU fans understand that as well, and I think most reasonable CU fans understand that when you have a perimeter oriented team comprised of players who can't hit the outside shot, and when your big man doesn't play like a big man, you are going to struggle. We will gladly give McDermott a year to get his players and his system fully implemented before we start getting uptight.
Besides, I can still look out on the court and see no P' and no Cavel. That remains a breath of fresh air for this fan.
