Unless there is a secret buyout being raised we're stuck at ISU with Lansing for 2 more seasons (after this one) of losing and playing on Thursday in St Louis. We have the talent to be a good team, but it's just not being utilized correctly. Fans are sick of losing year after year, but it's what we're used to.

Muller, Ford, Moser, Hinson, Marty Simmons - all of these coaches have deep rooted ties to the league and have had or will have success.

Are you seriously using Marty Simmons as an example of success? He is exactly the reason I hope SIU looks far and wide before deciding on a next coach. SIU will support a winning coach whether he has ties to Carbondale or not.

I'm glad you are happy with Muller, I would be totally embarrassed.

Totally embarrassed with a coach that has won MVC "Coach of the Year" and his team has finished higher than their MVC Pre-Season projection every year he has been the Head Coach at Illinois State.

It sucks making Sunday of Arch nearly every season. I would much rather play Thursday nights like your program.

Now that's funny right there! :D

Barry is finished at Southern Illinois. The relationship between he and the AD has soured. He can't win the big game to save his life. He might cut it at the Division 2 level.

Barry Hinson was a really, really lousy hire who has accomplished virtually nothing in seven years at SIU other than pile up some empty-calorie wins over weak opponents and schmooze donors. He hasn't come close to even achieving the success he had at Mo State. His best players at SIU have been Desmar Jackson (inherited from Lowery) and Anthony Beane Jr. (son of an assistant coach). The way he has squandered one of the most veteran rosters in the country this year has been a complete joke.

Can't wait til he takes his huckster act to an MVC video-stream broadcast where it belongs. He's sucked the fun out of Saluki basketball.

In addition to Hinson needing to GTFO of Carbondale ASAP, Indiana State is ripe for a coaching change, finances permitting, and Muller and Wardle should be given ultimatums of NCAA or bust by the end of next season, as both programs have been disappointing given the weak state of the league overall, especially Bradley.

Jacobson obviously bought himself a ton of goodwill with what he's accomplished in the past, but if UNI doesn't start reversing course by next year, I'd have to think Panther fans would be at least getting kinda antsy.

Ben Jacobson has done things at UNI that none of us ever thought possible. We get frustrated with his offenses sometimes but he's the safest coach in America not named K. He's earned the right to call his own time and, frankly, run the program into the ground (not that that's going to happen). Plus there are something like $8 Million reasons why he's not in any danger.

I'm also not sure there's a more respected guy in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls community.

Right.

And I know fans of their favorite team don't like hearing this--but these things run in cycles. UNI was going to dip some. That's not anyone's fault. They aren't Gonzaga. That's not a shot. Ben will keep them competitive and will win the league every once in a while. That's as much as anyone should expect.

This is exactly right. The hopes that UNI had of being the next Butler or Gonzaga died in the whole Doug McDermott fiasco followed right up by a bad AD hire.

This is his first real down cycle and realistically this team is crazy young with a great future. This cycle is going to be six years instead of his typical four.

Historically, he compares very well to Bob McKillop and Rick Byrd. I think UNI fans will gladly sign up for another 20 years of Ben Jacobson without hesitation.
