Wonder if Alford would go into broadcasting instead of coaching a Mid-Major team.
He was good at the Mid level, but not the upper level.

I like Alford, but my view is through very rose colored glasses. He still has some loose ties to the area, but I believe he thinks that he is too big time to crawl back to the mid-major level. You may be on to something with a future in broadcasting... I have had a theory for awhile... Those who cannot do, teach, those who cannot teach, commentate. Since he didn't last long in the NBA, he went to coaching. He was a ladder climber as a coach, and fizzled out at Iowa and UCLA. Now it is on to the next logical step in that progression.

I'm totally onboard with Mullins returning to Carbondale and would love to see it happen. Hopefully they can smooth over any hard feelings from the embarrassing way things played out last March.

Mullins would be the odds-on favorite for the job at SIU. I also think Luke Yaklich, the former ISU assistant who is now at Michigan, would be a really exciting hire for any MVC program.

SIU, both ISUs, Valpo and Bradley (despite BU's recent uptick) have to get their coaching situations right sooner than later, either with significant in-house improvement or by making a change, or they'll lose major ground to some of the MVC schools that appears to have made really good recent hires, not to mention Loyola having established itself as a conference power. Of those five schools, I'm hoping SIU will get a head start by making a needed change in a few weeks.

As a Missouri State grad and a lifelong IU Hoosiers fan from before I went to MO State, I have mixed feelings on Alford. Thankful for his playing time at IU, thankful for the success he brought to Springfield (albeit for a short period of time). However, he has made some ethically questionable decisions and I don't think his coaching record would justify him taking over a major program again. In IU's most recent coaching search Alford was a popular suggestion among a lot of the old-timer fans and I was absolutely opposed to that idea.

While yaklich would be the runaway favorite if they fired can (they wont) I think yak has coached himself past mid-majors. He's getting a p6 job. Or, if rumors are true he's head coach in waiting at michigan.

If I recall, SIU has history with hiring ex MSU coaches. You know Lusk is still available!

Im not sure the Bryan Mullins to SIU thing is as sure as some SIU fans want/believe it to be.

What is really bittersweet, seeing Dana Ford have so much success at Missouri State. Happy for Dana, because he is a great guy. Disappointed to really look at the Muller Vs Ford dynamic and realize that we missed out on the better coach. As an ISU fan that doesn't have much to cheer for at this point, I hope he gets it done for the Bears.

How do you know Ford is a better coach? Based on 14 MVC games this season?

I am not saying its a sure thing. There are, as in all situations, hurdles to overcome... however, Mullins is the overwhelming favorite. If Bryan Mullins wants to coach the Salukis next year, he will. Frankly, its that simple.

This is a depressing thread for myself as an ISUr fan, but wow Saturday night was the epitome of their season.

Muller will not be fired, but yuck.
