It happened almost identically for the very same reasons at both MSU and SIU.

I wish Barry the best because he IS a good guy who gave his best, ran clean programs, and cared about his players at both schools. That said it was the right decision for both schools to move on when they did.

I fall squarely in the camp of being delighted that Hinson is gone, but this is a good post and sums it up pretty well.

Update from Saluki-Insider site that’s been breaking things.
1) Hinson going into politics.
2) Job probably Mullins if he wants it.
3) SIU tightening things up after new logo and Hinson resignation/politics leaked on Saluki-Insider weeks before public.

This is the best explanation of Barry that there's been on here. Barry is a good coach, a good mentor to college players, and is passionate about the programs he coached. But he isn't a great coach, he never quite could get his teams to elite status, and he doesn't have that special something that takes talent and turns it into championships. You can either be okay with that or not okay with that, but eventually it just isn't good enough if you want something more - and you should want something more.

H/T to those guys. They have been right on the money about all of it. They had the new logo nearly 24 hours before the private ceremony rolled it out.

Wish Barry luck being Bill Self's waterboy once again. That was his best job.

How many coaches have beat MSU 9 straight?

How many have taken MSU to a 21 RPI?

Barry would have been National Coach of the Year if he could have coached against Greg Lansing every game. He sure had his number even when he had less talent & kicked around some pretty good Sycamore teams. Thinking Lansing only beat him once ever (home & away) while he was at SIU.

Perfect spot for Barry Hinson - UMKC. He can be his normal 18 to 20 wins there and be a legend. Let the KC media joke at his corny jokes.

No media outlet covers UMKC regularly, do they? It's like the "tree falls in a forest" conundrum.

If Barry Hinson tells bad jokes at press conferences and nobody's around to laugh, did it really happen?

As expected Mullins appears to be the top target to replace Hinson.
