Maybe Marquette or obviously a huge program like Duke but that's not happening.

Why not? Big East. Intercity. Right in Lincoln Park. New stadium. Showed he can recruit in town at effing Louola. Imagine who he could pull to the Big East. The Big East is a top basketball conference. They were DOWN this year at number 5. That's a bad year. Number 2 conference last season. Better than the B1G, SEC, and ACC with NC and Duke. Don't kid yourself. He'd take that job in a minute because that's the level of play DePaul is at. Not to mention they can double his salary and he doesn't even need to find a new home. He would have to rebuild that program though.

Smart move on Moser's part. I don't think he's an upper tier type coach, but he's got Loyola at a nice level and things in place to stay there at least a few more seasons. I do think if his aspirations are to move up he will need to take a job in the next season or two , or that window could close for him. But St Johns wasn't a good fit . DePaul would be, or a similar mid west private with some aspirations but not demands for immediate success. It'll be interesting if DePaul does open in a year or two and he's had continued success at Loyola . I will have Loyola as my favorite for the 2019 -2020 MVC race because of their recent success, returning core, and excellent incoming talent. To me those three things make them a notch above anybody else; the next 3-4 teams have more ???

I agree this was not the job for Porter but I do think he'll leave one day. He was offered $2.2-million. Another tournament win and someone will offer $2.5 to $3-million. Another Sweet 16 and some top tier team will be offering close to what Archie Miller got from Indiana. $4+

His career coaching record is 246-226, that doesn't scream excellence, sometimes you have to take your payday when they come.

Porter's already got his payday at Loyola. Unless your goal in life is to swim in your piles of money Scrooge McDuck style when you retire, there's not any reason to leave a well-paid position for a better paid position, especially when that new position is from an employer with a history of struggle.

I don't think he'll ever be offered the job, but if he was I don't see him turning to another Catholic university in the same city. Maybe in a few years he can clear $1,000,000 at Loyola anyway.

All along, I was amused by how thin everyone thought the bond between Moser and Loyola is. It's pretty strong.

Last Tuesday night I was at the Loyola year-end basketball banquet, and the bond between Loyola and Moser was as strong as ever. He said goodbye to the emotional seniors, he had the players returning for next yearNe stand up and take the challenge to continue building the culture, he talked about his kids (currently attending Loyola Academy), his home and how he uses it in recruiting/bonding with players, and his admiration and respect for Loyola, Jesuit teaching/education, and the culture in the athletic department. He's also got a really great recruiting class coming in, with two top-150 players and another that's an under-the-radar coaches son with high-level defensive skills.

So I thought there was only a 10-15% chance he would leave. When I found out the offer was $2.2 million and an eight year contract, I thought his leaving chance went up to 30-40%.

I also think a lot of people around the league don't recognize that Chicago is a pretty good place to live, work and go to school.

Maybe because DePaul has sucked for most of the last two decades, hasn't finished better than seventh in the Big East, hasn't been to the NCAA Tournament since they were in Conference USA, and hasn't made it past the first round on the tournament since they were an independent in the 1980s. Sure, they have two Final Fours to their name, but those were in 1943 and 1979.

All that being said, if Moser isn't leaving Loyola because he loves CHICAGO, then leaving for DePaul makes perfect sense because they could offer more money, no doubt. But if Moser isn't leaving Loyola because he loves LOYOLA, then why the heck would he want to go to DePaul? They may be the Blue Demons, but they're no blue blood of college basketball.
