Rough day for the Valley so far. Illinois State loses to Grand Canyon. Loyola blows a lead, crumbles in the 2nd half and loses to USF. And Drake loses to Miami of Ohio.
Woof.

“Jeff has been around a lot of successful coaches like Greg McDermott, Fred Hoiberg and Ray Giacoletti.”

Add to it that the Redbirds lost all three games in the Virgin Island. Granted two of the game were against the best teams there. Lost by 1 to Cincy after leading for almost the whole game, got drubbed by WKU and a future NBA player in Bassey, and then trailed by double digits multiple times to Grand Canyon before making a run and losing by three.
A lot of guys are hating on Muller but in my time watching ISU basketball (25+ years) they have never been able to hold a lead, regardless of the coach. There's just something about it. If we are down 10 with 3 minutes to go, its almost always been a loss. If we are up 10 with 3 minutes to go you better believe its going to end up being a 1 possession games. The Cardiac-Birds are back in classic fashion. I haven't given up on these guys 6 games into the season like other Birds fans, because I think they can pull it together. If nothing else- have three magical days in STL. Because If my time as a Redbird fan has taught me anything, its that we should expect the Birds to play on Sunday afternoon in STL and drive 2.5 hours back to central Illinois disappointed.
