Rough day for the Valley so far. Illinois State loses to Grand Canyon. Loyola blows a lead, crumbles in the 2nd half and loses to USF. And Drake loses to Miami of Ohio.

Woof.

Couple these results today with the massive stink bomb the Aces set off in the Bahamas and this is looking downright awful.

Add to it that the Redbirds lost all three games in the Virgin Island. Granted two of the game were against the best teams there. Lost by 1 to Cincy after leading for almost the whole game, got drubbed by WKU and a future NBA player in Bassey, and then trailed by double digits multiple times to Grand Canyon before making a run and losing by three.

A lot of guys are hating on Muller but in my time watching ISU basketball (25+ years) they have never been able to hold a lead, regardless of the coach. There's just something about it. If we are down 10 with 3 minutes to go, its almost always been a loss. If we are up 10 with 3 minutes to go you better believe its going to end up being a 1 possession games. The Cardiac-Birds are back in classic fashion. I haven't given up on these guys 6 games into the season like other Birds fans, because I think they can pull it together. If nothing else- have three magical days in STL. Because If my time as a Redbird fan has taught me anything, its that we should expect the Birds to play on Sunday afternoon in STL and drive 2.5 hours back to central Illinois disappointed.

Woof.

If games were played on FloHoops, they didn’t happen.

Also the Drake-Miami result can be explained by the Rutter Effect. Rutter is bitter he didn’t get the Drake job so he spent all summer studying Drake film to plot his revenge.

From his bio:
“Jeff has been around a lot of successful coaches like Greg McDermott, Fred Hoiberg and Ray Giacoletti.”

8 seasons is more than enough for Muller. He has failed.

Yeah, the Valley is just bad this year. Will still be fun to watch, and conference games may be competitive, but an ugly 0-5 today paints a telling picture

Time to turn it around. All winnable games today. If Loyola, SIU and Drake can take care of business and UNI can pull the upset, things will look a lot better.

Porter sits Marquise Kennedy for the 2nd half after shooting 68% (23/34) the previous 5 games. Loyola scores 9 in the final 14 minutes and surrenders a late 10-0 run to lose by 1. Sleazy Niko thanks Porter for the gift in the postgame handshake.
