A good weekend was just beating UIC. This is a bit more. Taking down a seeded top 4 took it to a higher level. Then pushing the preseason #1 to within 2 minutes of a loss in the semis upped that even more.

Guys, granted, a lot of the negative institutional crap that’s flying around is deserved. It is no secret that Valpo fans echo that and are pissed as well - probably more than outsiders. But that does not lessen the effort and accomplishment of the players Roger brought to St. Louis this past week.

Roger is committed to building a resilient program combining first year recruits (Wright this year and Coop last year, and we have a other good one coming in next season) and, hopefully retaining them, with some xfers to fill holes. Yeah, it’s kinda old school given the gross meat market and the win-now-or-you’re-gone atmosphere that is the portal. But what can a small DI institution without a multi-million $$ collective do?

So….. just so you guys are aware, if Roger is successful in keeping All, Cooper and many of the underclass minutes, as well as leveraging the final end of the season to get a big 5 to protect the rim, despite our HS gym and questionable institutional support, you’ll have to anticipate a very significant challenge when facing Valpo every game next season.

Until next November, all the best.

I hope that you are right. I think everyone on this board is in favor of you guys winning non conference games. As much as I crap talk Murray fans, I still want them to win non conference games.

Coach Powell isn’t trying to do something a lot of other MVC aren’t also trying to do. This isn’t some unique concept.

The bottom line is this. Valpo fans saw three days in STL as some major, league wide moving event. Many of the rest of us did not.

You ran into two teams with the flu. Congrats on that.

As a Valpo fan, I, along with many of my fellow Beacon fans, see that statement as pure projection. We have no delusions. More accurately, it was a Valpo moving event. We feel good about what we did. Perhaps we got a little more respect, perhaps not, but that does not change the facts reflected in the box scores of the three games we played. ………., and yeah, flu or not.

As I said previously, looking forward to seeing you again in November. All the best.

Correct. It was a good three games for Valpo. There were 20 others in the MVC regular season that should not be dismissed.

It would be awesome if every MVC team stepped it up moving forward.

I've had a change of heart.

I believe in Powell.

Valpo is my 25-26 Preseason No. 1 because of their unique vision and recruiting approach. You saw it come together at Arch Madness. This is just the beginning.

The mighty Beacons will shine over the MVC.

A special thanks to Tyler because his sarcasm has set me up perfectly!

None of us like what we are seeing in college sports. None of us can stomach being relegated to being Power 5 farm teams where there is no player loyalty or commitment or predictable continuity. So if the Roger Powell approach doesn't work and he and the fanbase get trampled by the marchers for money then a predictable collapse in any fan interest will follow. I am strongly sensing that attendance everywhere especially in the mid-major world is very close to falling off a cliff never to recover as it dawns on everyone that college sports is just another of an endless line of pro sports from which we have to choose or reject.

Thanks, I'm done with my rant for a while.

All I'll say is this. You all seem to project this "Holier than thou" attitude acting like you are "immune" to the effects of the portal and NIL, but unless you are a public school, or a private school in p5 places, you are going to see your guys leave at rates similar to last year. You act like NIL and transfers is a specific to Valpo problem when it is not.

No one here from Valpo is saying this is going to be an elite showstopper team next year. No one from Valpo thinks this team changed the MVC by winning 3 games. No one from Valpo thinks they are going to magically get multimillion dollar NIL investments. All any Valpo fan on this thread has said was that, if this team keeps their core and makes some adds, they would be a tough team to beat come next season. Yet, this narrative has been spun that Valpo fans are thinking they will be a top of the Valley team next season, which no one here has claimed.

All those 3 games proved was that Powell can in fact coach/recruit valley level talent. Keeping that talent is another test in it of itself.

Then what happened in the 20 games before that?
