And for the record, Collins is a tool as well.

I may not agree with all of their calls, but they do the one thing that good refs have to do and that is stay consistent.

I would agree with the comments about Zelton Steed. Kipp Kissinger, too. All over the place with what will and won't be called. May blow the whistles 4 times in one half and 50 in the next.

I agree with most of this post. Steed and Kissinger are god awlful. I have to also throw Pollard and Sanzere in this group. On the good side ,I don't understand all the hate for Higgens. He doesn't get all the big TV games because he is tall and skinny. He ,Olson and Janssen are probably the 3 best in our weak league.

Use to dislike Pollard the most, when I was a student (2004-2009) Pollard made so many bad calls in my opinion both ways. Although he has done a few Bears games this year and he hasn't stood out, which is to me the sign of a good ref. Maybe he's gotten better, or maybe we got a new coach that has their players play physical without looking like easy fouls. I think it's a combination of the two.

Worst call (as well as the worst game call)I'd ever seen was Everett Summers 2005-2006 Bears at U of Arkansas. U of A player about to take off for a layup... whistle ... Deke Thompson tries to block him but is so far behind his arm never comes within a foot of the Arkansas player and his body never comes within 3 feet. Player hits the layup and gets the "and one". Then no makeup call, at a very critical point of the game. So frustrating that he just expected a foul to happen and blew the whistle but it just looked so silly that no-one was even close. The only game I can remember that I think the Bears lost because of officiating.

I'm sure I've felt differently about certain games over the years, but it's the only one that sticks, still hurts.

Worst single call I can remember, and definitely one that decided the outcome of a game.

Early 90's, last game of the season, Drake vs Illinois State at Vet's Auditorium....my memory is fading, but this might have been the last game ever at Vets.

Drake leads Illinois State by 1, ISU playing for the last shot. Shot goes up with 2 or 3 seconds left, clanks off the rim, and actually somehow lands on the floor before being touched by anybody. Players from both teams dive at the ball. The horn sounds, the Bulldogs start to run off the court. The Redbirds start to run off the court....Bulldogs are about off the court when Bob Bender (ISU coach) starts signalling frantically that the ref has called a foul and that the game is not over. He is correct. ISU hits the two free throws and wins the game.

First off, what ref blows a whistle in a loose ball situation as the game clock is expiring. Secondly, any contact that occured (if any) was completely incidental as players from both teams scrambled for the loose ball.

Lastly, and most importantly, replays (which couldn't be used at the time to overturn calls) showed that the "foul" occured at least one full second AFTER the buzzer had already sounded. The official never called another game in the MVC, but had a long career as an NFL official.

Prior to this season, I always thought that Janssen was the worst, with Pollard a close second.

This year however, Steed has been horrible. I've seen him do two games and they may well be two of the most horribly officiated games I've seen in person. He has far and away been the worst ref this year for Jays games.

I believe I saw or listened to both of these games...and I concur 100%, this guy is awful. I like Jannsen and Higgins...Sanzere has been good to my teams in the past, and bad...so I don't freak when I see him doing a game like others might.

Don't forget Tulsa and Oklahoma State. Or does the bad ref rule only apply to single digit losses?

The Tulsa game was fairly called in my opinion. I did not like a good number of the calls in Stillwater, but that did not affect the outcome of the game ultimately. For the two in question they were just bad calls that robbed us of a chance to win those games. The horrible call against Copeland came in the final 15 seconds after a clean steal in a two point game. Very real chance to tie or win at that point with a three. The ISUBlue game should have gone to OT, you just cannot in good conscience call that at the buzzer. I'm not trying to take anything away from either Tenn or the Trees but we were all robbed of seeing a fair ending to a sporting event. That's all I am saying.
