People say Lowery will be gone, and he certainly deserves to be, but I've yet to see any kind of realistic plan that would see him out based on his contract. I just don't see how SIU can afford to pay two coaches at once.

SIU fans, have any realistic, non-pie-in-the-sky scenarios come up?

Under. I would be surprised if anyone other than Les is out.

Lowrey isn't going anywhere unless a multi-millionaire ponies up the cash to pay his contract off. I don't see many multi-millionaires running around Carbondale, does anyone else?

I'm trying to figure out why everyone is saying that Marshall wants out of Wichita. He's one of if not the highest paid coach in the MVC, has the best recruiting budget, has been able to recruit good players, has the best home court advantage (throwing out this year) and last but not least has several top level recruits in the Wichita area over the next few years.

Unless he gets a fantastic top 10 type offer.....I just don't see it.

Marshall has been pretty careful about the jobs he takes. He stayed at Winthrop longer than he needed to waiting for the right job.

On a personal level, he really likes the players in WSU's junior class, especially Stutz. Everything we've heard around the Wichita area indicates that the Marshall's like it here.

If the right job comes around, he is probably gone. But only if it is the right job.

It is absolutely Gregg Marshall's goal to coach in a BCS conference and closer to home. It is also Gregg Marshall's strategy to select jobs very carefully. He will not move if the move isn't perfect and he will not go to the BCS for what he considers lateral pay. Wichita State's compensation package buys the university time. Where a smaller midmajor in the southeast might be able steal Marshall if he were only currently making a half million, now it takes serious coin. If there is any question, read the article I posted in the last Gregg Marshall "leaving" thread.

And yes, Gregg Marshall continues to have his name pop up. Here is a message board thread that MVCfans readers might find topical and interesting.

Have you ever noticed what happens when the pretty girl hangs out with the homely girls? 9 times out of 10 she gets picked on. This is Wichita State in the MVC.

Now back to your post.. HCGM has turned down several offers and interviews to coach at BCS programs. He turned them down while he was at Winthrop and he turned them down since he has been at Wichita State. To say a coach would never leave your program under any circumstances is naive, especially when you are talking about a hot commodity like Marshall. Gregg would only leave Wichita State for what he feels is a perfect match and a lot more money. I would be willing to bet that he will turn down some offers that will make coaches in this conference shake their heads in amazement. Wichita State is just that great of a job.

Les and Lowery are gone. I'm not sure SIU can afford it, but I'm also not sure that they have a choice. I honestly don't think that either Martin or Marshall will go precisely because (a) they both seem to want to wait for the right job, and it doesn't bet to open up this year; and (b) I don't think they'll do anything in the tournament.

The only struggling Big 10 school I think Jacobson would consider would be Minnesota. I am not sure, however, Tubby Smith is going anywhere.

I think the Under is the most likely. I do not see too many teams looking to make a change. Les probably should be and CLo definitely should be, but like others have said who knows. I am not sure how much more time Illinois State should give Jank. I know it was just one season, but things are not trending upwards in their future.

All depends on Nic Moore...

1 more year for improvement
1 year after that for a title run

New AD will add a new twist soon...

I'm not too worried about Jank. I think most fans expect a new coach to hit their peak with recruits in the 3rd or 4th year when they have all of their guys in place. With Jank, it was the opposite. He went for it right out the gate and it seems like he is starting a rebuilding process right now.

I think we have some good young talent and as you mentioned, if Nic Moore is as good as advertised, that should be the missing piece to the puzzle. We don't have a lot of guys that can create for themselves or others. Once we get that solid PG in place it should really open things up for the rest of our team. I don't expect a freshman PG to change the world (like Odum is his first year), but I do see improvement coming our way. I expect we should be in contention after next season. If not, then I think we start talking about a new coach at ISU.
