I'd say he doesn't care at this point, he obviously (as you have all seen) is to much of a team first kid to play for personal awards - just not his style. But if you don't think that he uses his lack of recognition as a chip on his shoulder then you are kidding yourself. Not sure how closely you have watched him, but he really plays with something to prove every time he is on floor. Somewhat "sad" that he had to prove to the Valley how good he was in the MVC tourney after such a tremendous season - some people on here (I am sure very knowledge basketball minds) failed to see how good he was. I felt totally disrespected by 95% of the people on this board, you pretty much spit in my face and said peace with it he aint even better than Rice and that was that. In the end he got the last laugh though so I guess that's all that really matters. I am just saying you guys got to look at the total picture when you are evaluating these awards and such - Odum is probably one of the most complete players in the league. He doesn't put up gaudy numbers in any one category, however he has a very diverse game and can beat you in so many ways...

These posts get so crazy....every post I have made have said nothing but praise about Odum, I do not look forward to facing him for the next three years. This whole thing starts with a comparison of Odom and Mallett. I did not watch Odum game in and game out, you did not watch Mallett game in and game out. Mallett put up rediculous numbers all year and through the tournament, he is a true overall player that plays very consistently. I don't know why people are slighting him getting the MVP just because MSU did not win the last game, that is the only argument for Odum over Mallett, and it should not be a consideration of the winner. They picked the right guy, and Odum is a great freshman.

His twitter could be part of the reason he is getting slighted what media mogul would vote for him after he ripped them apart earlier in the week.

A. He didnt really rip them til after the MVC final but,
B. if the media cant be impartial in their voting then they arent doing their job.
I watched every game during arch madness minus the play-in games and Odum was the only one that made me in awe...granted I am partial...He is most definitley a rare talent that any team would like to have.

Thought you guys were saying that Odum is such a team player, yet he publicly says he feels slighted for not getting individual awards? I could see his argument if he had not even been acknowledged, but he was considered the 2nd best frosh, and McDermott was the best. He was considered the second best player in the tournament, and was voted to the all tourney team as a frosh. Mallett was the best player. Don't know why he would feel slighted unless he is only concerned about putting hardware on his own shelf.

Todd Golden wrote in today's Tribune that all those with votes had to submit them before the game concluded. Many of those told Golden later if they had been able to vote AFTER the game their vote would have gone to Odum.

DiehardMSUfan,
listen it was about the MVC season awards...felt slighted by neither him or Carl Richard making the actual ALL MVC squads...I think he has a gripe there lol...especially since imo his best game of the year wasn't even in that tourney, it was just the first time anyone paid attention...

Jesus, Odum will have plenty of time to rack up All-Valley awards. His push didn't come until the last half of the season. The entire season is weighed evenly. He just missed out. I'm sure he would rather have his NCAA ticket punched then some individual award. At least I hope so.

Time to move on.

Mallett was supposively the best player throughout the tournament, but he was the one who ended their chances at the MVC title and a trip to the Big Dance, that sounds like a player that I want on my team. He tried to do it all himself and IMO that is not a team player. That last play, the ball should have went to Leonard IMO, he is the best player on that team and is arguably one of the best shooters in the MVC.

Why so many seem so upset that Mallett won is beyond me. He had a HELL of a tournament and was as far as me and my group were concerned, the MOP of the weekend. One play at the end of the game should have zero effect. Who wins the damn thing should have zero effect. Mallett is one of the best players in the league and was the best player that weekend.

Hell, my buddy and I were discussing this during the 2nd half and though Carter was more deserving of being ISUs MVP than Odum. We also agreed that Mallett was MSUs followed by Leonard. Throw whatever stats you want out there, that was just our observation from watching the games.
