MVJ, didn't you go to one of these games at the Civic Aud last year? I remember you talking about going, even if you didn't actually go. For the record, I didn't attend UNI's CIT game, and I most likely won't be at the next one. But what else is really going on in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and Indiana on a random weekday night? If fans are close (I don't live in Cedar Falls), they might as well go and enjoy a little more college basketball action.

I went to one last year. I also got in free and it was on a slow Monday night. I can't tell you how I got in free, but I can assure you, it was free. If it was $2.00 I would not have gone.

The other noght I was stuck taking my son to thos sex education thing. I didn't want to go to it and my son didn't want to go to it, but my wife signed us up... I would have gladly gone to a CBI game than endure that sex ed class.

As to other things going on, my other son had his first baseball practice Tuesday night, I'm one of the coaches and would have been there if not for the sex education class. My golf league held their calcutta for the Spring tourney Tuesday night, I missed that as well. It was a beautiful night and spring is just beginning. There is bike riding, walking, playing outdoors with the kids, literally tons of stuff to do. Basketball has been going on since November, it is played indoors. The weather is changing and if your team isn't in the thick of the NCAA's or has a compelling NIT game, I just don't see the draw. Now if Creighton somehow drew Oregon to the Qwest Center, I would go in a heartbeat, but that is the type of matchup you would need, otherwise, it's time for Spring.

Since the NCAA won't open the tourney to all teams, maybe the NIT champs could be put into one of the sweet 16 slots.

Evansville's attendance, which was given at at 1,200 was way too low. Tickets weren't even checked at the door. I was there, and most people who had attended games at the PAC before said we had over 2,000 there. Not a huge crowd, but extremely loud, rowdy, and into the game.

Its pretty tough to sell a lot of tickets to the season ticket holders when you don't know whether there is a game until the day before and you then have to drive down to the Quest Center before 10:00 a.m. the next morning in order to purchase a ticket for your regular seat. With limited opportunity to drive downtown to get your tickets, and busy schedules with lots of conflicts which can't necessarily be resolved in a day's time, and coming off the heels of state basketball tournament, its just a tough sell - particularly to play Fresno State.

I expect about twice as many to show up for Davidson Monday night.

I can see a lot of fans attending an NIT game, but who really goes to CBI or CIT games? Unless you are a perrenial bottomfeeder, why would you attend a CBI or CIT game? The season is essentially over, your team didn't meet their goals, the weather is getting warmer and there is a whole lot of other stuff that gets priority over attending a game featuring teams with sub 100 RPI's.

I would expect attendances in the 2-3,000 range. Anything more would surprise me. Or it is an indication of a bunch of people with not a lot of anything to do beyond supporting a mediocre basketball team who's season should have already ended. Stick a fork in it already!

We have another thread com0paring the Summit with the Valley, that thread reeks of midmajor. This thread reeks of low major. Comical.

So MVJ, would you then suggest that fans of FBS football schools stop going to games after they lose their second game of the season? After all, they have no hope of playing for the crystal football trophy and are only angling for a second tier bowl game at that point, right? Or is continued attendance an indication of a bunch of people with not a lot of anything to do beyond supporting a mediocre football team who's season is, for all practical purposes, over?

Fans go to events to support their team. I am a fan of UNI basketball. As long as they are still playing, I'll be going.

What about that new-fangled thing called the internet? Sometimes it's used by forward-thinking enterprises to sell tickets. There is also this thing called a telephone. Maybe you've heard of them. They work great for things where you would like to avoid driving.

I'm not saying that at all. And I'm not saying that fans shouldn't go to these games, I am simply saying that AFTER a season is over, and all of the season tickets are used, for many, me included, unless there is an interesting matchup, it is time to move on to another activity. You should do what you want and nobody should criticize people or fanbases for simply being done and moving on. Attendance comparisons for CBI or CIT games is stupid.

My point of this sillyness WASN'T that people shouldn't go to these games, if you want to go, by all means go!

Now back to your FBS analogy, you certainly should go to all of your season games regardless of the way the season is going. You root hard all the way to the end. Where it gets similar to this, is the bowl season. The better your football season, generally, the more compelling your bowl matchup. If your team went 6-6 and squeeked into the Weedeater, Poulan Allstate, Titan Tires Bowl, I don't think those fans, dedicated or not, are going to be nearly as compelled to shell out money to travel to Biloxi or wherever. On the flipside, if your team goes 9-3, gets an invite to the Holiday Bowl against a regional rival or traditional power, fans would flock to the game. It has little to do with who has the best fans, it has to do with a compelling reason to go. There is little to compel most people to see a matchup in a CBI game vs. Bowling Green. On the other side of the coin, if Dana Altman had to bring his Oregon Ducks to Omaha, I'd be there in a second- even if there were 30 other things going on. I could bet people would travel for many miles surrounding Omaha to see it as well.

Using CBI or CIT attendance figures as some sort of a "Fandom Gauge" is silly and reeks of midmajor. It is ridiculous. I know the Valley is midmajor, I just wish we all acted a little less midmajor. Discussing attendance figures from CBI/CIT games and debating the Valley vs. the Summit is certainly midmajorish.

If you'd rather play the NIT in NY than play in the NCAA's, what the he'll is even the freaking point? I seriously hope the rest of MSU Nation doesn't share in this same mindset. That is absurd.

No, we don't. We are still trying to figure out where he came from so we can send him back there...

Please, I'm just speaking my mind. And on this issue, I'd betcha most of our fans would agree with me.
