One and done in the NCAA as an auto bid has two aspects.

1) You made the big tourney - Hooray!
2) You look like you're from one of the "also plays D1 ball" conferences that get auto bids. One and done often creates the impression that team didn't "actually" belong in the NCAA's.

Winning the NIT probably doesn't give as much recognition as making the NCAA, but not all of that recognition is positive.

Nawwww, 34 teams lose after the first game. Does that mean 34 teams did not deserve a bid? Again, too much focus on winning and not enough on how competitive a team played. The team who lost in the first round on a buzzer beater is a little more competitive than the team that lost by 20.
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.

I don't get this. It's obvious, the NIT stage isnt nearly as large as an NCAA game against a power six conference, plus if you get gus johnson as your announcer and he loves your point guard he may trend on twitter lol...on a second fact, I dont think rubbing it in anyones face is neccessary but before this year how many times were tree fans told "and when was the last time you made the tournament?" So it's a double edged sword. Let's keep it classy guys.

Hey there is nothing like being the worst 13 seed in the tourney. ISUb will return to irrelevance as soon as the cops put Jake I'm a Thug Odom in jail where he belongs. He is stealing the hearts of Mooselick, IN one cheap bottle of wine at a time. In my opinion it is better to go to the NIT then get an automatic bid and have your claim to fame as trending on twitter in the state of indiana.

And you've known Jake Odum for how long? Long enough to learn to spell his name correctly I see.

I really love watching this thread progress, as it would appear the NCAA envy is overtaking many of you Shocker and Bear fans. ISU made a good run through the final 8 games of the reg season, including the 3 @ St. Louis. Beating #2 & #1 in back to back games.

Each conference has the option to send its Tournament Champ, or Reg. Season Champ to the NCAA, and unfortunately this year only the Tourny Champ got the invite. I really feel both MSU and WSU were deserving of an NCAA birth, but you've got to do 2-3 things. Schedule tough out of conference and win your Bracket Buster games, both of which the Shockers and Bears failed to do.

ISU will be back. Sooner than many of you can expect. :bounce:

This has to be the least amount of class of any fan I have ever seen in valley history...A. We were a 14 seed and we were nowhere near the worst (See St. Peters Peacocks) B. it's spelt Odum C. He is nothing like a thug, seriously, the teams fan that had a guy doing the throat slashing gesture wants to tell ISU that Jake Odum is a thug? Grow up. ISU will prolly be a top 2-3 team in the valley again next year and Jake Odum will be here for three more years to rip the heart from your chest beatingrillz...

Wow - ISU blue fans are feeling disrespected and unappreciated after making their first NCAA Tournament in a decade, ignoring the fact that BU, CU, DU, UNI, SIU and WSU have done that and more during the same time period. Forget the claims of future league dominance despite a third place finish this season (by three games). Inferiority complex?

And MSU fans are going ad hominem on ISU blue's PG, who talks a lot and makes a lot of gestures during games, because they lost and were relegated to the NIT, despite winning their first MVC outright regular-season title. Sour grapes?

All we're missing is:
BU fans saying that their job opening will attract Shaka Smart away from VCU or Sydney Johnson from Princeton
SIU fans screaming about how Lowery should have been fired yesterday (although they could be worn out at this point)
WSU fans proclaiming their loyalty to all things Marshall, including the impending MVC dominance
DU fans calling for Phelps' scalp
UE fans celebrating a .500 finish and proclaim they're coming for the title
ILS fans talking about their schedule
UNI fans dancing in the streets
    CU fans missing Matt Perault

Fun thread.

Next year prepardeness: Several NIT wins

After reading the original post and several replies I was left asking the question, better for who or what?

Thanks, Ace Dad, for your reply, which I agree with.

I will say this...continuity wise, Idk how much it will help ur team if one of ur best players is a senior, they will still have to learn to play without that player. See MSU's Creekmore and WSU's JT Durley.
