MVC messed up 10 years with a very short sighted decision. We should have added NDSU and SDSU then back when Creighton and Wichita State were in the league. They would have put the resources to succeed and been solid additions in all sports. Valley Football would have been taken care of as well. Also you probably wouldn't have seen Omaha and St. Thomas move up and South Dakota and North Dakota wouldn't be in the MVFC as well.

In three years or less SIU will be the dominant team in the conference. Book it.

People complaining about Arlington being too far away don't realize that Arlington to Springfield and Fargo to Cedar Falls are basically the exact same distance.

They're both outliers and it's a helluva lot easier and cheaper to get to Arlington than it is to Fargo and the entire Fargo metro area would make up about 3% of the Metroplex. If the goal is general enrollment, it's a no brainer.

I'd listen to arguments for SDSU but if Murray's population is a huge stumbling block for the presidents, Brookings isn't even worth discussion.

When it comes to considering far-flung adds it seems that we're weighing two main factors as to which is the most important: should we value money and market--albeit a small presence in a crowded one and a good recruiting area (Arlington assuming they will invest) or performance and flagship status--being the only game in town (where NDSU wins hands down but unfortunately doesn't add a lot recruiting wise. I can see the potential allure of Arlington but I continue to stand on this point: I don't want to add underperforming schools in big markets with lots of money just hoping the investment will pay off and we'll get another Loyola. I think money helps but it doesn't guarantee success and I still see what happened with Loyola as an exception rather than the norm. We could end up with some significant anchors in this conference that will hamper its upward mobility. Nobody should want that. But I do understand the importance of being in good recruiting areas. I've moderated my stance somewhat on Arlington but I'm still very reluctant to them as an addition.

Wow, someone that finally gets it. People on this board are either deaf, blind, or just plain ignorant when it comes to the Dakota schools. The XDSU's are the big name schools in those states. You can go into any truck stop in those two states and find XDSU gear. Can't say that about any of the other MVC schools. Those two schools are also big deals in Minneapolis and are basically Minnesota schools anyways. NDSU drew over 30k for a football game against Butler, who is bottom of the barrel in football.

Not sure why we're discussing NDSU's football draw. This is a basketball league. The add would be for basketball, which is definitely not why any conference would consider adding NDSU.

Unless I missed something, NDSU is already in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

What you're saying would be the equivalent of the Horizon League wanting SIU to join their league because their football team just made the playoffs.

I just don't understand apparently.

Valley expansion?

Source tells me that Illinois-Chicago is now in the mix and has had discussions with the MVC. League also still exploring Murray State and UT-Arlington with UMKC still sniffing around.

League could be looking to get to 13-14 teams.

Is that tweet anything new? NO. People that follow alignment already knew this.

I would think Murray is already a sure thing. Followed by Arlington--then UIC-- then UMKC.

They may just add two and wait six months to make sure Missouri St. is staying. Then consider adding two more for fourteen.

If the Bears leave. Add only one to get back to twelve. If another excellent candidate is found they may still go ahead to fourteen by adding two.

Well Loyola, thanks for your time here in the MVC and all you've accomplished here. Your fan base was totally cool and took the jabs well when you first joined and ended up really proving yourself.
Now you best go and dominate the A10 and tell their fan base how much better the MVC competition was. ;)
