Is there another Mullins that can join the staff?

Could continue with the ISU connection by hiring Dan Muller to go along with Brendan Mullins and Tony Wills.

Leaving SIU to go to Greenbay? That seems like a…lateral move at best, or there’s some serious issues down in Carbondale. Doesn’t UWGB have a pretty lousy basketball budget currently?

It's been about 3 weeks since Mogbo from Missouri State entered the portal. Today the official Missouri State basketball account just posted this video called "back to work", showing workouts in the gym with players and coaches. All the returners you would hope would come back (Donovan Clay, Alston Mason, Chance Moore, Damien Mayo, etc) are all pictured in the videos. Could be nothing, but seems somewhat purposeful to post this right now. Every day in the portal causes us fans to hold our collective breath, but hopefully this means that maybe the Bears can keep this group intact.

For sure. If the Bears keep most of those guys around they will be a favorite to win the league.

Yeah, doesn't mean much at this point, but it does provide some hope most of these guys will be back, which would include pg Matthew Lee as well. If so, Bears will still need to add 3-4 this spring, which right now would look to be a shooting guard and a couple 4/5 types. But certainly not a daunting needs list and all those returning guys started some and got extensive pt except for Bensen who appears ready, and Lee who was a couple year starter at St Peters prior to missing last year with an acl.

I don't see a "league favorite" ; but certainly a MVC top 4 type roster.

I wasn't suggesting THE league favorite - but one that can compete for it potentially. One of a few teams.

They supposedly have strong connections with the Chicago AAU circuit, but I haven't seen any benefits yet. Need some St. Louis AAU connections or a person who is a portal guru to bring in talent.

Yeah I'm not sure who the top 4-5 projections will be; long summer with lots that can happen. So many teams with big losses so far and haven't started the reverse flow of talent back in yet at places like Drake, Belmont etc. It's been unusually quiet around MSU with little indication about top spring targets or any additional news about possible other roster churn. I do think the stated intention by the NCAA as to making second transfers difficult to get a waiver for, may be causing some slowing of the portal march at least for the Bears, but who knows. Lots of second transfers in the portal nation-wide. Bears need some front-line depth , but I could go into next year with essentially this roster and feel like we would be competitive at the top.

Speaking of the reverse flow back, I have concerns with some of what I see. For example, I just saw on twitter Murray State is in the final 7 for Kenny Hunter from LA Tech. Two years ago, the 6-10 center averaged 3.9 ppg. Last year he averaged 6.0 ppg and 5.1 rpg. All of this on a team that went 7-13 in CUSA. I've watched Murray for years and they always have better talent coming in than this. I may be wrong. Maybe this kid has some real potential, but I hope that MVC teams are going after stronger talent than this.

Some of the players that Belmont is looking at seems better than what we lost to the portal overall, but they still aren't raising the bar for Belmont like I would hope. I'm hoping they surprise me when this is all said and done.
