I do agree that you finished last with Givance and Newton so you can finish last with them. It can't be worse.

I get the decision 100% to move on.

Givance and Newton were all the Aces had last year. The Aces had no presence in the paint on either offense, or defense. You don't win in any league with that scenario. Will the new guys be any better than Givance, or Newton? Who the hell knows at this point? What I do think, or hope, is that Rags will have these guys playing defense, and fighting for rebounds at a level we have not seen for quite some time. What will disappoint me very much is if the Aces are not a tough out at the Ford.

The 'tough out' depends a lot on the fans, who feed of the energy of the team. There are a lot of ways to achieve that. We all know the various ways it works but I think the dropoff in enthusiasm coincides with the minute the coach takes a player out and inserts (walkon) whose job it is to pass the ball around, then kick it out to a guard who is supposed to drive the lane and get off a decent shot with 2 seconds or less on the clock.
For those who condemn Aces fans for unbridled optimism need to realize that there is not much way this team can be as bad as we saw last year.
Looking at the UE roster in a void, it's hard to say it's an upgrade to the point where a 'tough out' will be common. Some of these guys are just certified warm bodies with a basketball resume. I think we know who likely will be the main 6 or 7 players and a couple of frosh will be in there sooner than later.
But sure, it's nice for fans of other teams to criticize the optimism we have. After all, it was only a few months ago when we lost by 50-some to Loyola.

Good stuff. Agreed.

Be harder to beat at home is a great place to start.

For those of us who haven't followed Evansville recruiting very closely, can you give us the very short cliffnotes preview of who might be expected to be primary options next season? Blaise? Preston? Who else?

Evansville Courier posted an article discussing the new players, so that's based on chatter between the scribes and people who do the thinking.

Beauchamp, Phillips, Hall and Smith Jr. are the only returners who figure to be in the early conversation, although a couple of them have a similar skill set. That pretty much opens it up to the group who wants it more. Strawbridge and Coleman are likely to win the fight for at least one of those spots. The other players make me shrug a little since they seem to have landed in a place that's better than where they were.
I think the Malovec kid will be a surprise. Spinelli is a shiny object.
Moncrief will get a lot of PT.
Of the vets, Hall is the biggest mystery since he's been hugging a red shirt. I will be interested to see if Phillips gets a new role. He's essentially a backcourt kid who grew 6 inches one summer. Lickliter had him handing the ball off instead of developing a baby hook shot inside the paint.
That might not be a Cliff's Notes version, but some people think I ought to be shoved off of one.

No, this was great. There's so much turnover on teams year to year now that it's hard to keep track so an update like this is helpful.

Purple 35, you are a breath of fresh air on this forum in regards to the Aces. Keep up the good work.

I’m curious what players you’ve seen play who are better than the three I mentioned. If it’s that obvious it should be easy to name them.

I’ve seen Aces fans on here talk about how much better the team will be but no one can tell me which players will be good.

Time will tell if we are better,I do believe we will definitely have a deeper roster with 5 transfers and
I believe 4 freshman .

After only winning 6 games last year I'm sure the only thing we can do is improve. 1st of
all we have a full roster, had 2 players finally use there eligibility up,and have a coaching staff
that will bring enthusiasm to our players. As far as our roster goes we will definitely be taller
and faster. With that being said it will up to our staff to find the right players that will blend
together. On a side note UE made an offer to Jon Boll who is 7' 1" and a 5 star recruit. Jon was on a unofficial
visit this week, and by the way Marcus Wilson who is on our coaching staff is his legal guardian.

Not a player, but Drake has added Tom Ostrom as an assistant coach. Previously was an assistant at Indiana, Dayton, Arkansas, and Florida. Was “Associate Head Coach” at Indiana and Dayton. Supposed to be a very strong recruiter in the Midwest.
