It's because some schools would be trading the chance to play upper tier MVC teams (Drake Bradley MSU UNI presumably Belmont etc) for schools that will probably struggle thereby driving down the overall metrics of the league. If we're going to expand and abandon the double round robin that has been so core to the intimacy and solid rivalries of this league then we need a better reason than a hope and prayer that the school(s) we add MIGHT be good. I've heard past performance is no guarantee of future results and that is true but I'd trust a school with a track record over a hope that a school will become consistently good any day. Banking on potential is risky. Just because it worked out with Loyola doesn't mean UIC and\or UTA will work out. This league needs quality right now with the defection of Loyola not maybes. Go with the school with the track record. Go with Murray State and only Murray State.

It's the opposite. By getting rid of the round robin you can shield your better teams from having to play the bottom teams more than once.

Teams get bids, not leagues.

Welcome back! You've been missed!

In the literal sense teams do get bids, but worse teams from "P5" conferences will get in over teams from other conferences just due to the conference they are in.

Yeah, welcome back, VUGrad1314!

I think the "P5 teams get in over mid major teams" is an old trope that isn't really proven to be true. Yeah, there are borderline teams each year but not so many that it's that big of a deal.

Nearly ever year, 25 win MMs are left out in favor of teams with under .500 records in their own leagues.

The reality is that teams are the ones who get bids, but the leagues matter.

It's happened to ISU alone at least 4 times in the past 15 years. Most recently we had our most wins in program history 28-7 (17-1) and were kept out in favor of a 19-16 (10-8) Vanderbilt.

Yep. The committee doesn't care where you get your Q1 wins just that you get them. It's why P5 schools can always play their way into the tournament while a mid major on the bubble can only play themselves out of it unless they win the autobid.

It was rumored 1-2 months ago Murray's AD or President met with the Southland in DFW. My guess is that was for football, as it wouldn't be for full membership.

Right, it doesn't have to be the SWAC. Hopefully Southland, SoCon, Big South are all being explored. Edit: And Colonial and ASun.
