Wait...so UNI isn't going to the SEC?? I may need to check with Dannen on this, I thought he told me Mike Slive gave him an envelope on Wednesday

I dont' get it. Why in the world would anyone want to go low-level FBS football right now? Here's a quote from Lunardi's article yesterday -

Imagine a landscape of four 16-team super conferences, built for football and I suspect a short bowl-driven playoff that suddenly "makes sense" when you subtract the prospect of sharing revenue with non-BCS participants. (And with all of this conference expansion, this is the direction we are headed.)

I don't always like what he has to say, but in this case I agree with him. The whole point of this expansion fiasco is to cut out the little guys. Why do you think Baylor freaking out over getting left with no option but C-USA? Non-BCS FBS teams are going to see their already painful income statements start to look even worse when they don't have access to meaningless bowl games and buy games against the BCS programs. Revenues for non-BCS FBS teams will plummet if the big boys get their wish.

Double Jay, it isn't the schools themselves that talk about being on the verge of going to FBS football but the fans of those schools. Let's not confuse the two as their is a big difference.

I talked with UNI's AD, Troy Dannen today, he mentioned that no matter the outcome of these shake-ups UNI is far away from any moves and is definitely committed to FCS football. The department depends on it's current status and is very satisfied with where they are at. He couldn't give me a whole lot in terms of what he thinks the other schools are doing but he's confident that UNI will be at this level for sometime, which is exactly where they want to be, considering the financial strapping's of a move up or down and the current success we are having. One thing he mentioned is that a move for Iowa State will likely negatively impact UNI whether its because of a smaller pay check when they play each other in football or some of the other factors like ISU becoming more dependent on state money. Should be an interesting next few months

The rumors I've heard is that Creighton is really looking to bolt the MVC. Anyone care to confirm or deny?

I don't think Creighton wants out of the MVC, but who would pass up on the opportunity of playing in a bball only conference with the leftovers of the big east. You would basically be looking at a conference like the MVC, but better. Creighton has been rumored to be on that short list if this does occur. If it happens, then good for them and their fans.

If I were creighton fans and I want this to happen, I would be praying for more of the football playing members of the big east to jump ship then this is almost guaranteed to happen unless they want to keep it in the east and only add some A10 and CAA teams to the mix.

I just don't see it happening.

DePaul
Georgetown
Marquette
Notre Dame*
Providence
St. John's
Seaton Hall
Villanova+

That's 8, I think they would probably want to get to 10 with some combination of Xavier, Dayton, Temple (plays football in the MAC), or Butler. All are better geographic fits and actully help tie the western schools like Marquette and DePaul to the pocket of schools in the Northeast.

If Notre Dame was forced into a conference (seems more and more unlikely), AND Villanova leaves to go play football with the rest of current Big East football schools (also unlikely), then then might consider looking further westward toward Creighton if one of the other 4 I mentioned doesn't want to join the Big East.

Read the very first post in this thread.

If we were to leave would MVC schools be interested in home-and-home series or would they hold a grudge?
