Air Force to the MVC?

Discuss the MVC hoops season here.

Oral Bob announced last week they are entertaining offers from the Southland Conference but had no timetable for a decision. FWIW.

It would make sense to ease the travel burden on CU and WSU and UE and InSU to create an East-West split.

But I would like to see the league look at a big school like Oakland or noted strong program like Butler as well.

LMAO, it's called sarcasm, point being if DE is dumb enough to bring in AFA who knows what other stupid things he would like to do.

BTW, if it's not Dayton, Xavier, or Butler (which none of those schools would ever want to) then expansion should not be considered. If it's not a positive addition then why in the h would you do it?

Oakland? sure they are in Detroit metro but could be in BFE for all Detroit cares. Also ORU adds just as good a program as Oakland, and baseball, which thanks to several programs in the valley the league could use a few of those teams. Don't confuse that with me saying I want ORU, just saying they would be better add than Oakland. Butler laughs at your suggestion, would be awesome but they aren't stupid.

Expansion should happen when the MVC can add value, not when somebody calls up DE and asks.

My hope for expansion hinges on certain things happening including the Big East taking Xavier and Temple which makes the A-10 less appealing to schools like Dayton and SLU. Without that, I agree 100% that we're better off not adding than adding simply to add.

Gaah, No duh.

I am well aware of the dynamics here...schools like Butler, Xavier, SLU and Dayton are only interested in more East Coast exposure.

However, the thing that gets lost in that argument, is EVERYONE wants more East Coast exposure. So for every Butler and SLU that gets it, it takes more of it away from schools like Marquette, DePaul and Dayton that are already enjoying it. So that will factor into votes for admission. While it would look ridiculous to pass on a Butler now for the A10 or BE/A10 replacement league, schools will at least try to block regional threats.

But just so you know, before completely dismissing them out-of-hand, Oakland's athletic budget is about $9 million dollars/year. Only the Valley's football playing members are at or above that level (and its actually ahead of some who do play football, IIRC). It is a school of 20K and they play a BCS brand of basketball. Brian Gregory played for their current coach. They are willing to put their money where their mouth is. They also play a high-profile series of non-conference games at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The only drawback I see is their smallish arena.

And don't confuse me for saying they are my top choice. But I am bullish on them as far as a prospective member goes.

Good God, if we start worrying about baseball when considering adding schools, that would take the stupidity to Mt. Everest heights.

Not sure why you even bother to read, you seem to always miss a sentence or two, let me help you.

"Don't confuse that with me saying I want ORU, just saying they would be better add than Oakland."

Do you have some sort of agenda, do you think I will read this and break him off a piece? Or do you read throughout the entirety of the quote and try to actually understand what is being communicated? Speaking of Mt. Everest, you are getting close to the summit yourself, congrats!

This is not an accurate statement at all. WSU's is somewhere between 15 and 20 million, they do not play football.

OT but what exactly is SIU spending almost 7 mil per year more on

Not a big fan of adding Air Force either and I guess their AD looked at last years MVC/MWC Challenge numbers thinking they could come here and be more competitive

Beats me, I just was correcting the statement that 9+ million would be tops among all non football MVC members.
