I'm surprised Jank is shopping himself around so much, especially w/the team he has coming back but SMU can probably pay big $$$. Not sure Jank is the splash they are looking for though but everyone else has rejected them....

I hope (and think) Jank comes back.

My thoughts: The MVC Report - SMU interested in Jankovich?

Why Jank would leave:
1) Team coming back doesn't matter as there a never any guarantees in the Valley. He had talent with Osiris Eldrigde teams and couldn't get it done (NCAA appearance). It's got to be frustrating playing the Valley schedule with the fact even the bad teams are good enough to beat you if you aren't ready to play. Those losses are what can keep you out of the dance.
2) Chirping by redbird nation about his schedules. Coaches can be sensitive to the fan's feelings. It has been said that Altman justified his leaving for Oregon because he thought folks wanted him out. Reading message boards as I do, that belief was somewhat justified. It doesn't help when it was obvious that P Allen was getting special treatments. Not all of us wanted Altman gone, but there was definitley a loud minority.
3) The Iron is at least warm if not hot. Next year is no guarantee; a key injury can derail any season so if he has always wanted a shot at the big boys in a BCS league - take it while the opportunity is there.

Why Jank would stay:
1) Leveridge - just doing these things to get ISU red's attention to come at him with more "committment" - longer contract & more money.
2) Rejected again - iron was still too chilly for never making it to an NCAA tourney.

SMU, Jank and the Big East.

Sounds like the answer to a quiz show question.

Actually, you are close, but no cigar. "SMU, Jank and the Big East" sounds more like a question for Carnac the Magnificent.

"I hold in my hand the envelopes. As a child of four can plainly see, these envelopes have been hermetically sealed. They've been kept in a number two mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wagnall's porch since noon today. No one knows the contents of these envelopes, but you, in your borderline divine and mystical way, will ascertain the answers, having never before seen the questions."

RIP Johnny Carson. Nobody has done the Tonight Show better since you, and sadly, it's probable that nobody ever will.

The question, name a school, a tool and a cesspool.

Sorry for the apparent jab at Jank. He's not a tool, I just couldn't think of anything else that rhymed.

If we perform as hoped next year, Jank will be gone for sure.

Whaaaaat??? :Bam:

Please, for the love of God, please tell me that Jankovich is not this dumb. Leaving a head coaching job in the MVC, in which he has a potential NCAA tournament team coming back next year, for a ASSISTANT job in Conference USA??? Best case scenario, he is head coach at SMU (which is a bad job to begin with) in a few years?

This is beyond stupid.
