The Chicago Tribune reports that officials at Loyola have confirmed. If you want to see for yourself go to the Chicago Tribune Sports page and scroll down about 3/4 of the way just ahead of an article talking about the US Women's Hockey team winning the world championship. Sigh.

I wasn't sure what to think about Loyola until I read all of Casey's comments.

Reading how much Casey hates this pick made me like it.

Haha. If Kobe Bryant is allowed to vent via social media then CaseyGarrisonforPrez is allowed that same liberty. Amiright?

But seriously though I feel like we all are members of the band on the Titanic and we are continuing to play as the icy water gets nearer. And nearer. This all is so sad.

And hopefully this new Jesuit school won't come with the same sense of entitlement that the Jesuit school that we just got rid of had.

Somebody on their board opined that they should not neglect the impact of their Track team's success and recently producing a couple of All-Americans and that this could have been key in getting a Valley invite. I am not kidding. We have made the Valley a better Track and Field conference today. So you know if Missouri State can get a leg up on a couple of javelin throwers at Lincoln Way Central (Chicago area HS) or something then it was all worth it.

Is this really happening? Guffaw.

you wore your welcome out here Jan 24, 2011...that hasn't stopped your posting of stupid comment after stupid comment here

WSU beat writer with some thoughts on Loyola joining the Valley:

Loyola may turn out to be the best choice of a bad pool of candidates. All of the schools that appeared to be candidates (Loyola, Belmont, Oral Roberts, Illinois-Chicago chief among them) came with warning signs. While Loyola may not excite people now, this is a long-term decision by the MVC presidents that will be given time to pay off. The MVC’s addition of Northern Iowa in 1991 did not thrill people (and caused great concern in places such as Peoria). Given time, UNI grew into one of the MVC’s best members, with national success in men’s basketball, volleyball and track. The addition of Evansville in 1993 was seen as a smart move. Its performance in men’s basketball has been a disappointment for most of its MVC tenure.

I see too much negativity about Loyola and felt it necessary to speak up.

Despite having bad records and low rpi, they actually have a decent record against mvc teams. loyola's has about a 50% winning percentage against MVC opponents in the their last dozen games or so.

Additionally, Loyola has lots of money and, finally, people in charge who are committed to improving their athletics.

Lots of Money, commitment, and being able to recruit better because they are in a higher league.

This will all help them compete even better than they already have against MVC teams.

Thought I'd toss out this post I found on the Loyola board. If they invest it could be a good pick. If they don't it will be a bad one.

"1. We are the largest enrollment Jesuit school in the nation... larger than Georgetown, Creighton, Boston College, Gonzaga, San Francisco, Holy Cross, or any other. There are 41 (?) Jesuit colleges in the US.
2. Creighton was the MVC's highest endowed school at $375 million endowment, more than twice as much as the average of the other nine MVC schools. Loyola's endowment is currently $389 million. Loyola has assets of $1.2 Billion and averages $159 million in donations per year. They also average $10 Million per year on investments in dividends and interest. By comparison, Creighton had $853 million in assets, $64 million in donations.
3. Loyola is in the Chicago metropolitan area, a TV market of approximately 9 million people.
4. Loyola is located closer on average to every other MVC market than Creighton.
5. Loyola is currently ranked highest in the Horizon League for its competitive finishes in every sport. http://www.horizonleague.org/blog/loyol ... ships.html
6. Loyola is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the 106th top National University in their survey.
7. Loyola has played college basketball at the highest level for 100 years. We have played more than 150 games against current MVC members. Our rivalries with Bradley and other schools date back to the 1920s.
8. Loyola has 1 NCAA National Championship, two NIT national runner-up finishes, two Sweet 16s, 1 NBA #1 overall draft pick, and one of the top 10 college basketball scorers of all time. Two Hall of Fame inductees.
9. Over our past 12 games against MVC foes we are 6-6, including 2-1 against eventual NCAA Tournament participants.
10. Our alumni include several congressmen, Bob Newhart, the creator of the TV show "Glee," CEOs of McDonalds and many other Fortune 500 companies, the former Secretary of Commerce and White House Chief of Staff, and the rhythm guitarist of the band Smashing Pumpkins. And me, proudly."
