For BU, there have been so few, but mostly they've been great, save for the fact they've never won it.

The 1996 tournament provided "The Shot" and "The Stare", Kevin Stallings using an entire timeout just glaring at an official.

My first tournament was the 1997-98 tournament. I was a freshman in the Bradley band and we were a play-in team. Our bus driver's name was Steve Drake. We opened against Drake who hadn't won a game over two league seasons. Armand Lavasseur (sp?) went lights out over the first few minutes from 3 to open a 15-0 Bulldogs lead. Bradley climbed back to victory. The next night, we faced Creighton in the 2-10 game during their breakout year under Altman. We started calling our bus driver Steve Creighton for good luck. We pulled off the season sweep against the Jays (Molinari owned Altman in those days, but it is worth noting Buford got hurt early in the first meeting in Omaha and did not play most of the game) to become the only play-in team to reach the semis.

Then we ran into SW Missouri State in the semis. We couldn't agree on what the hell to call our driver, and the team ran out of gas in the 2nd half after staking a halftime lead.

Such a great weekend.

2006 tournament...Heemskerk coming off the bench to provide a few key plays to help O'Bryant shut down Miller in the BU-Wichita semifinal.

2007 tournament, Will Franklin's buzzerbeater to edge UNI.

SIU was absolutely demolishing Missouri State, and I remember Barry calling a timeout and was going insane on his team. I don't remember the exact score, but they had to have been down by 20 or so. They made an incredible comeback and ended up winning the game.

Our game vs. Creighton in 2009 was very similar, except unfortunately Clevin wasn't able to hold on to the ball and the timekeeper wasn't able to do his/her job correctly. I don't know how well we would have done against Illinois State in the next round, but I guarantee we would have done much better against them than Creighton did.

I remember that one too. It was a nice win. Unfortunately we didn't go on to win the whole thing. That's generally the way it has gone for the Bears at arch madness. Lots of "near misses and could've /should've" tournies.

The thing I've enjoyed most in the times I've been to Arch Madness has been the Creighton-WSU rivalry. It's really the only thing I could take humor in while WSU lost every year.

I particularly enjoyed 2006, Wichita State went to Omaha and saw quite a few "Official Sponsors of the NIT" signs. In the quarters Creighton was playing Bradley and these two young kids sitting in front of me started asking their dad if they "could do it yet." He said "not yet" but as the game was winding down he finally said "go ahead" and the kids let out an "NIT NIT NIT" chant. I got a kick out of that one.

I also enjoyed ISUr laying down the smack on CU after the Screw in St. Lou. That was when I actually liked ISUr, if that would've happened this year I probably would've just skipped that game and hoped both of them ended up losers.

The atmosphere for that game was pretty crazy, very high-level game.

Also, this is just a single moment, but I'll always remember how sweet this dunk was by Chris Roberts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiVvrxlX27Q

This was the year after the whole 1.9 deal, and I remember Creighton fans walking around talking about it nonstop. Honestly, you would think that win over a #7 seeded Wichita State team in the quarterfinals of the MVC tournament was their biggest win in years. Of course, they got absolutely crushed by Bradley in 2010 and we didn't have to hear from them after that.

Making the finals that year was awesome, and I wonder how much different the championship game would have gone if two things had been different. One is if Graham Hatch had made a layup on an alley-oop play we ran near the beginning of the second half, which was right before the huge amount of time we went without a field goal, and two is if the refs had called a foul on Egleseder when Stutz pump faked him and went past him for a slam. We were pretty worn out and one of our better players (David Kyles) was injured so a win wasn't too likely, especially against a great defensive team like UNI, but I was hoping emotions could just carry the team the rest of the way. I really do think that 09-10 WSU team could have won a game or two in the NCAA's.
