$75? Holy smokes!

I paid $247 with no seat premium for my tickets at the Ford Center right next the band... that same money would buy me three single game tickets to MSU.

UE currently has a promotion running for the start of the conference slate ... one ticket to 3 selected mens' and 2 womens games' for $36.

That's ridiculous.

I can make an argument for maximizing profit with a higher price than is able to sell out the arena if you're looking strictly at the monetary side of things ... but it's not just about the money. You need to maximize revenue with butts in seats to create a home-court advantage. The better the advantage, the more likely you are to win, the more demand there will be to watch a winning team, etc.

Charging $75 for tickets to a half-full arena is simply stupid. There's no defense for that, unless they're simply gouging the people that want to be there because they think that even if they lowered the price significantly, it wouldn't lead to an increase in attendance because no one else wants to watch them.

There is too much competitive advantage to a full arena to go out of your way to hold attendance down. They're over-thinking things.

Yes. Obviously more people in the seats will help with concessions and merchandise revenue too. And more people being there and seeing a good product will make it more likely that they come back again. At this point MSU is just needlessly turning off potential customers.

Couple weeks ago went to see St. Louis at Valparaiso. $10 each for two tickets to sit near midcourt, about 10 rows behind the Valpo bench. Not the most modern arena (seats on this side were bleacher not chairback), but a decent size, about 6,000 capacity, and place was about 2/3 full. Great seats, very good atmosphere, good ball game, enjoyable experience, would go back in a second. At $75 each for the same scenario, there's no chance. The product better match that price, and unless you're a top 20-level program, it doesn't.

In the 50s and 60s, the height of SMS Bear BB--now MO State, we would fill old McDonald Arena to it 5200 standing room only capacity: 2 NAIA National Championships, 1 NAIA 3rd place, I think 3 or 4 NCAA Small College/D2 national 2nd place finishes. Absolutely great MIAA conference games, great home and away with SIU, Pan American, and lots of small college (many now D1 or D2) BB teams. Lot of schools, including all of the MVC schools, got too big. What were great small college/D2 BB (second tier) are now 2nd if not 3rd or 4th tier D1, still pulling small college/D2 crowds. Bigger is not always better.

Absolutely. $75 is only going to attract die-hard fans. You can't build a fanbase with that.

A lot of Bears fans feel the same way. This has been hotly discussed on our message board.

Tickets in the upper bowl are much much cheaper. No seat assessment (in certain sections) for a block of 4 they can be had for as little as $100 per seat (for the season). Pretty good seats and a. good deal. That's what I do currently while we still have one in college (at MSU).

It does seem like there isn't much middle ground in the JQH pricing structure. There have definitely been some complaints about that and a lot of discussion.
