Thought MissouriValleyUnite's post should be read here too. If this is Elgin's attitude he needs to go.

In one interview, Elgin calls for expansion to 80. In another, he publicly(!) reveals his league expects one annual NCAA unit once 2025 rolls around and is instead eyeing the APR pot — while griping about the growing gap between P6 and mid-majors.

For the weakest iteration of the league ever, this is pretty meek, uninspiring leadership. Still no hints of self-evaluation and what/who could make the league better. Just acceptance of fate in a year 4 peer leagues earned an at-large bid.

OVC must be throwing a party over the free money the MVC has printed them.

Is this a serious post? Talk about a lack of perspective. We're one year removed from the second Final Four in six years.

Can we please stop acting like Doug Elgin doesn't know what he's doing? At the very least, if you're going to try to make the case against him, pick something other than the OVC. For crying out loud, this was the best season in that league's history and they got two bids....the MVC has done that four times in the past seven seasons.

Elgin has been around a long time and I'm sure he'll retire sometime soon. They'll find some fresh blood and give that person a go. When they do, we should all hope that they're as successful for the MVC as Doug Elgin has been.

Never has the same thing been said more times by fewer people than this tired litany by VUGrad 1314 and a few Murray posters . The' "don't read if you don't like it" mantra worked for about the first 100 times we had to endure it, but it's past old now. I'm pretty supportive of all views having an open forum for presentation even when I disagree with them, but it's gotten more than boring, now insulting, that on the MVC board we have to listen to constant OVC BS . I mean fine, go trot out your love on the OVC board , that's the appropriate place for it. If and when the MVC starts talking expansion as a serious consideration, then discussion of worthy candidates becomes relevant again.

I'm in favor of expansion, and I'm in favor of Murray State being in the Valley. But I'm not in favor of constantly degrading our own league in order to push individual agendas. What I think keeps being overlooked by the supporters of this agenda is that Murray State was in a competitive process for an opening in the Valley and lost. It's obvious their basketball program more than meets objective criteria for inclusion, so duh, there were evidently many other criteria that didn't past the test, at least in comparison to Valpo at the time. Unless someone has clear understanding of why that was, all of this pontificating and gesticulating is stupid because it's not informed debate.

One thing seldom if ever mentioned in this discussion is whether Murray State is even interested anymore. They've had a complete change in administration since the MVC added Valpo. While the previous Murray president and AD were gung ho about the possibility of joining the MVC, I haven't heard one word on the subject from the current president and AD.

While the fans have clearly spoken, it is very possible that neither the MVC administration nor the Murray State administration has any interest in this anymore.

Elgin interviewed. Paywall for some of you maybe. Sounds like he doesnt want an odd number of schools so Murray needs a partner to come with them if an MVC move is anywhere in the near future.

Shortsighted. Won't stand multiple top 25s in last decade with multiples NCAA tournaments and wins with several draft picks including a top 5. He would rather see the MVC as the 32nd best conference than go to 11 for the better of the conference. Yes, it might sick for cross country or whatever but basketball is your bread and butter so make decisions based on that.

It's not Elgin's call, it's the 10 presidents who have the final say. There are plenty of areas they consider other than just men's basketball.

But they shouldn't. Worry about the turkey not the cranberry sauce. The mvc is making decisions based on the cranberry sauce.
