I wonder about the value given to past success. If i'm a coach looking for a place to make a name, I want a place that hasn't had recent success but see no reason there can't be. When I look at UNI, I can't imagine how I could do any better than Jake has. SIU has had somewhat recent success and the current environment financially would mean high expectations with limited resources. Both those situations would cause me to look elsewhere. MSU has shown it's possible to do well, has great facilities, and has much lowered expectations due to lack of recent success. I want that job! Evansville is similar. BU and ISUR have not floundered enough to lower expectations but do have the resources. Those jobs are good options to me but not can't miss like MSU or UE.
All that to say, winning tradition (recent) is a negative to me if i'm looking for a place to make a name.
Sure a UNC, Duke, Kansas type job has high expectations but that is much different than a MVC job. Who would really want to replace the coach at a WSU/Gonzaga type program where simply maintaining is a huge task but i'd bet those jobs would rank very high on this type of ranking.

You guys think a head coach sells a recruit on D2 titles from 50 years ago?

No, but McCarty can sell a recruit on his NBA career, Assistant Coach experience under Pitino at Louisville and with the Pacers/Celtics. He can sell them on his NBA connections as well as Lickliter’s scout network. He can sell them on the fact they’re leading the MVC in attendance, have a nice modern downtown arena, a new oncampus practice facility, lounge, etc and the school’s academic reputation. That’s some significant selling points.

No but, do you think what the Trees did in 78 sells either? The tradition factor should be applied equally.

Me too. The way this ranking was done it's very subjective. It falls into the "interesting but who really cares" category for me.

I don't think it's as much butthurt, and it would be easy to dismiss it as the fluff that it is, but your fellow poster blasted this as gospel. The contradictions alone prove it is garbage.

Quotes from the supposed anonymous coach regarding Evansville..."Best practice facilities in the league" "Ford Center is big-time, even if it is off campus" Yet, we got a 9 in facilities.

I don't have a problem with the subjective content of the rankings, but it does seem to lose some value when the writer doesn't bother checking facts before submitting his piece.

Indiana State was ranked 8th for history/tradition.
