I wonder about the value given to past success. If i'm a coach looking for a place to make a name, I want a place that hasn't had recent success but see no reason there can't be. When I look at UNI, I can't imagine how I could do any better than Jake has. SIU has had somewhat recent success and the current environment financially would mean high expectations with limited resources. Both those situations would cause me to look elsewhere. MSU has shown it's possible to do well, has great facilities, and has much lowered expectations due to lack of recent success. I want that job! Evansville is similar. BU and ISUR have not floundered enough to lower expectations but do have the resources. Those jobs are good options to me but not can't miss like MSU or UE.
All that to say, winning tradition (recent) is a negative to me if i'm looking for a place to make a name.
Sure a UNC, Duke, Kansas type job has high expectations but that is much different than a MVC job. Who would really want to replace the coach at a WSU/Gonzaga type program where simply maintaining is a huge task but i'd bet those jobs would rank very high on this type of ranking.
