Whoever comes out of the Valley will likely be a 14 seed at best, and I can only see two teams actually being good enough to earn that. If Loyola or Illinois State manage to cut down the nets, I can see an argument for them to be a 14 seed. If anyone else manages to eek it out, they are going to be locked in on the 15 vs 2 line. While it is not impossible to win from that line, it is very improbable. I wouldn't want to draw the team from the MVC if I were the 2 seed, but that's where we honestly belong.[/quote]

This is exactly right.

I can’t remember the last time our conference completely lacked at least one strong front runner. 14 is the likely seed but 15 is not out of the question.

My bigger concern is that with the transfer game favoring major conference teams and money playing more of a role in recruiting and success of college teams that this is the new normal for conferences like the Valley.

The transfer issue is huge.

If Loyola doesn't win in STL, I hope Drake does. They give the best effort night in, night out, and they are probably the most likely team to pull an upset from the 15 seed, Loyola included.

Big Ten has not been kind to mid-major grad transfers. Brock Stull is criminally underutilized shooting 40%/50% and only seeing 10 MPG. Ryan Taylor warmed the bench when NU needed 3’s in crunch time tonight.

Stull should have gone to Valpo. He'd have been a major piece here. And Taylor should have stayed. Evansville could have used his scoring and leadership.

We would have not been a last place team if we had had Ryan Taylor, and Dru Smith. Don't know about Thursday, but not last.
