Then PM built the program up and cruised to an MVC title and a Final Four run.
It was also, "They are not relevant nationally. No one cares about them."
Loyola's MBB account now has 4x as many followers as any other MVC program on Twitter. Because of the Final Four run, Loyola had more publicity than any other MVC program not named Wichita or Creighton in over a decade.
Not to mention, "Yeah, but they play in front of an empty arena everyday and have no fans."
Now the gym is averaging a near sellout every game and will have six sellouts this year. Students line up for hours to get in. Apologies we didnt sell out games like Benedictine and Norfolk State and UNI at 6pm on a Wednesday on -50 weather.
Now it is "Yeah but they dont sell out every single game and being 10k fans to St. Louis. Pathetic!"
I bet if we sold out every single game, this board would be bashing the size of the gym even more and saying we need to build a brand new 10k capacity arena.
In case you didn't notice, nobody here is complaining about the quality of basketball played at Loyola. What we find dumbfounding is that your program was the favorite to win Arch Madness and you barely had fans show up. What we find dumbfounding is that you are bragging about filling a relatively small gym. It has nothing to do with respect for the program itself - Loyola has earned that. It has to do with wondering why a team that went to the Final Four (!!!) hasn't managed to draw even more people.
Now it's just up to Loyola fans to prove this board wrong. Show up as a force to St Louis and prove that Loyola has a fan base large enough and passionate enough to tip the scales for this conference.
