On paper, according to recruiting site rankings, Lottich had more talent on the roster when Valpo entered the Valley than any other team. I thought they would finish top 3 or four for sure the first season. Based on recruiting site evaluations the talent level has dropped considerably SINCE Valpo joined the Valley.

BCP, completely agree in theory. However, there seems to be no plan in place to upgrade any of those. Every year our AD gives some vague comments about knowing our arena is garbage but no concrete plan to change that, though to be fair that's above his pay grade. And our upcoming presidential shakeup has added further uncertainty to that. I've said on our board I believe Lottich will eventually be a very good HC, but he's not there yet. Could easily see him following a Moser type career path. I could be biased, but I just don't see the talent gap being as big between us and the rest of our conference as our record would indicate.

At Valpo we need a coach who can overcome the limitations we have in place. It's not fair that that should be the case, but it is what it is.

Well...I guess we’re not judging Lottich then, because budget, facilities, and home arena aren’t likely to change, at least not anytime in the foreseeable future.

CheeseheadCrusader is pretty spot on in his assessment.

Bumping this because it seems like it'll be a fairly quiet coaching carousel in the Valley. Obviously, I'm on the outside and have put my two cents in but these next couple of days will be crucial for Indiana State. I think you have to either extend Lansing or start fresh. Anything short would sabotage the 2021 recruiting class.

A out-of-the-box option would be for the ISU administration to behind the scenes try to coax/push Lansing out the door to IUPUI. It's open and would be a solid landing spot for him to start fresh at.

Also, bumping because apparently the SEMO coaching search will include some familiar names: https://hoopdirt.com/daily-dirt-3-5-20/

Lansing is a tough one. They'll be preseason, what, 6 or 7 next year? That's probably not good enough in year 10 when you haven't had great success.

He is. I honestly would try to extend him 3 years with a low buyout figure so his recruiting doesn't completely implode. But it sounds like InSU's internal politics don't really want him. And if I'm Lansing, I think I would have too much pride given the job I've done (not out of the park great, but on the whole a certainly good tenure) to stick around as a lame duck. I'd look to a school like IUPUI. They have similar resources, same recruiting base, easier conference, just probably an all-around better place for him to win.

I haven't been the most pro Lansing person but I think he's earned an extension from ISUb absolutely.

I guess what those ranking sites didn't tell you was that our top two players had issues that year. The 4 star ESPN top 75 transfer Joe Burton never cut it academically and flunked out the first semester that year. Tevonn Walker had a severe case of mono ending up in the hospital after the Purdue game and took about 5 weeks to get back to any semblance of his pre-mono self. Besides those two the only other players I can think of that would have had decent rankings were Evelyn, Smits and Hazen. Evelyn had a nice season, what can you say about Smits other than "potential never realized", and Hazen is a 3 star enigma, (which I will never understand) nice kid now a junior playing for Lipscomb averaging under 4 ppg.

I'm somewhat hung up on the egg they laid against Missouri State on Friday, which is fairly representative of how most of his Sycamore teams have performed in St. Louis. There was no reason to get dominated like that with a veteran backcourt and team that had been playing good ball going into the tournament.
In general, I don't think his body of work would be good enough for me if I were an Indiana State fan, but I do recognize that's a tough job. I could see it either way.

There have already been a few firings since the world seemingly stopped earlier this week. But I have to say, is any college going to be that cold and ruthless to make a move now?
