Cincy dropping men's soccer program as a result of financial concerns largely associated with anticipated decreased revenue due to Covid.

Sad to say, but if schools can't open in late August (4 months), there's a real question if basketball can be played. Football is almost certainly going to be affected.

If testing of athletes on a weekly basis can occur, it might be possible to have all sports active even if classes need to be cancelled. The revenue hit from cancelling athletics would be disastrous. Games without fans, but with TV revenues would let schools "get by" financially for a year.

There will not be college sports if there are not college classes.

California state college system says no on campus fall classes so San Diego State and Fresno State might not be able to play football this year.

This will get so political!!

There will be NCAA D1 schools in States that will be open with little to no restrictions. The NCAA will not allow a few "Blue States" to eliminate a season of collegiate sports for the nation, or will they?

My opinion is that in States that are open, collegiate sports will be business as usual with a few guidelines. California's Governor has already made a determination regarding public Colleges and Universities in his State.

The major problem will be in Conference alignments. The MVC is just one example where States like Missouri, Indiana, and Iowa will be open for NCAA sports and then Illinois will not participate. This will be even more complicated by public and private schools in States that remain closed. Bradley and Loyola may very well participate from Illinois with no fans present at home games. I fear public Illinois schools will be mandated to only observe next season unless the State Legislature gets involved. With this in mind, I do not see any sport season confined to Conference games only. Most all Conference's cross State boundaries and will face diversity form each State involved.

Our Constitutions (State or Federal government) were never designed to allow one elected official to have long term power to control individual freedoms as is occurring with current Executive orders being issued across our Country. In fact those Constitutions were written for the exact opposite, to ensure that one elected official did not have the power to limit our individual freedoms.

I know some of you will say attending collegiate athletic events is not an individual freedom. To that I say that this debate is not just about the fans attending games. It is an individual freedom for an NCAA athlete, coach, administrator, staff, etc. to participate in their Life, Liberty, and pursuit of Happiness.

It will be interesting to see what percentage of private vs public colleges open their doors.

Now this from the MAC:

The Mid-American Conference announced Tuesday a plan to change its postseason tournaments for 17 sports, including eliminating the tourneys for eight sports.

Beginning with the 2020-21 academic year, conference champions in field hockey, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, women's lacrosse, softball and baseball will be determined based on regular-season league records, rather than postseason tournaments.

Additionally, the MAC volleyball tournament will be reduced from the top-eight teams to the top four, men’s and women’s basketball from all 12 teams to the top eight, men’s and women’s swimming and diving from four days to three, men’s and women’s outdoor track from three days to two and men’s and women’s golf from three days to two.

The MAC eliminated the opening-round campus-site games for the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments and will play 20-game conference schedules, rather than an 18-game conference slate, beginning with the 2020-21 academic year.
